What oil?
« on: August 07, 2015, 04:16:12 PM »
What brand of oil and what viscosity are most of you folks running? I've got on just over 100 (s)miles so far so won't be needing it yet but good to be prepared!  I know alot of ATV's use 0-40 full synthetic.

I believe the manual calls for a 15/40 but I went with a 10/40 on my first oil change. I may go synthetic on the next one but not until I get well over 500 miles. I did use a 80/90w synthetic in the rear gear case. Used Valvoline.

I just went with the manual at 15w-40 for the first change. There seems to be a lot if talk about oil when it comes to the wet clutch. When I had the rhino, Rotella syn. seemed to work just fine and I use it in my outlander without any problems. I may switch over to it next season.

You know, I have a full gallon of full synthetic Can Am oil left over...I wonder, Hummmm? Problem is that there is no idea of what the oil actually is as far as viscosity or such? It's not marked on the container. I don't use my UTV in the extreme cold either. I always thought that the oil most used was 0-40 anyways?

I am unclear too. I'm old-school and that says didn't use 0/40 above 10F but people use it all the time now for everything. Also being old school says no synthetics where any friction-related devices are used like wet brakes and wet clutches...but again people do it. When in question, I find following what the manual says is best- especially when there is a warranty in place.

I do agree with you on using the 15-40 as per the manual. I did see, while picking up my Z that the CF Moto engine and diff oil is full synthetic, trouble is they want $17. a litre! Ouch!

Castrol 10 40 in the engine with a K&N Filter. Valvoline synthetic on the gears.  When you change the oil be advised that the funnel and hose they give you will not fit in the fill hole.  Also make sure you clean around the fill real good to avoid knocking dirt and mud into the crankcase.

My dealer didn't give me one of those funnel-n-hoses. Had to make my own. Yeah..not a fan of where the filler/dip stick is located.
