I'm using 10/40 Castrol GTX conventional. Its been a fantastic oil. However now that I am fully broke in, I am switching to something else. If it works out I'll do a full review on it.

Good cause I'm going to a full synthetic as well. However it's one for high RPM gas engines and is rated for wet clutches.

I saw the Castrol synthetic that's come up on here. Read the back on it and it does say it's works with wet clutches. But I don't think anyone has tried it yet? You looking to be the trail blazer?

Well...yes, because I am now running in a higher RPM range now constantly, I feel the need for the added protection from an oil formulated for those conditions and more...cause more is better!...right?  I have the Power RS Racing T4 10/40 in it now. So far so good. The clutch is actually snapper as well as the throttle response , the tranny quieter and shifts easier, engine runs smoother and stays cooler longer..ie less fan on-time. I need to get some real miles on it before I consider it a success and be able to recommend it. Reviews are all outstanding though. This is the stuff:

NMK, I'm just getting ready to order some of that Castrol oil, I'll install it at 600-800 miles. When I do, what do you think the interval should be; any idea?

See this was I was afraid of. CFM doesn't recommend a synthetic oil but some are using it without problems...and some even are using a type not rated for wet clutches. I wanted to try it for a bit now that mine has just under 600 miles and it's the best time to switch-over and try it. I don't anticipate any problems but you never know. As far as interval, I usually go between 5-700 on my conventionals so I think if it stays clean..I will probably look to 9-1100 miles. May go more as many are saying 1500-2000+.

No fear Brother, I think the big thing is just to make SURE the oil is rated for a wet clutch, right? I was going to just order the same oil as you recommended earlier, I am a huge fan of synthetic oils; I use them in most everything I own. I was thinking the same thing, though, on interval, about 1K miles, that sounds about right. Maybe I'll call Castrol on Monday & ask them about it, and report back here what they say.

Thanks for the opinion, NMK; appreciated.

Cool; I just ordered (4) cases of it....I figure just over 3 quarts per oil change, so that's about 3 changes (2 machines) & some extra oil to keep on hand.

Hi,

New guy here to this forum, been reading for months. When I puchased mine in August 2015 I also purchased engine oil and filter, he gave me CFMoto synthetic oil, so I don't quite understand when you say they don't recommend it, or am I missing something.

Also - and I've come accros this lots with other engines and manufacturers. What is the proper way to check the oil? Opp's manual says to insert dipstick completely (Which I take as screw in) and service manual says don't screw in dipstick.

Welcome. Looks like it's boiling down to oils that work with wet clutches. All conventionals will.. but with synthetics, only those that list for use with wet clutches will. This is true with many other manufacturers of friction-incorporated devices such as wet brakes, variable diff locs and other types of motorcycle manual wet clutches where historically, synthetic oils wouldn't allow for proper friction. Now it looks like they have reformulated and added additives that allow their use in these types of equipment. There were some other concerns too such as leakage through gaskets and seals designed for conventional oil and certain types of cylinder coatings that allow synthetic oils to pass by rings and burn.

I may have missed this from another thread but is everyone using an OEM oil filter from their dealers? or what aftermarket filters are you guys using?

I guess until the castrol synthetic pans out...I'm going to go with the castrol GTX conventional oil.

The CFM oil filter is the only one I can recommend ...at least right now.... and yes, until I can get some more seat time with the Castrol synthetic, I can without any reservations, recommend the GTX. Great conventional oil.

So, what is the most popular oil you guys are running?  I am going to try the 15/40 shell.  It has the wet clutch certification on the bottle!
