impossible to shift at times

Hi everyone.  I just got my first 4 wheeler, a cforce 600 last weekend.  I haven't had time to drive it much, but in the little bit that I have, often times if I try to shift into another gear or park it's like it's locked and doesn't want to shift.  I had read about this when I was researching this brand/model and it seemed like it was kind of a common issue.  I had hoped I wouldn't run into it but alas, I have.  So, does anyone know if there's some trick to getting it to shift easily between gears?  Thanks.

Welcome. I have heard about the shifting issues with some CForces. Many are because the safety that requires you to depress the foot brake isn't adjusted well enough to unlock the shifter and a simple adjustment fixes that...some have removed that safety feature. Not sure of the 600 has it but worth a look. Others have a problem as the transmissions are new and the gear changer just needs to break in some. If that's the case it will get better over time. But..if it's a real problem I would take it in and let the shop look into it before it damages something...expensive... :)

You probably have to press the footbkreake to be able to shift it. Theres a wire that goes from the foot brake to the shifter that "locks" it in the place it is and if that wire is not adjusted correctly it's realy hard to shift. I recomend removing that anoiyng thing. It realy makes it easier to shift and without press the foot breake wich helps a loot in some situations.

The shifting linkage may needs a bit of adjustment to. But start ith checking that wire that "locks" the shifter in place untill you press the footbreake.

I have that issue sometimes too, i saw online that you have to rock the ATV back and forth a little to get it to move into gear. I do that sometimes and it works, it is a pain though. I will think i'm in "L" sometimes and it actually isn't and it will just rev up and  not go anywhere.

I have the 2019 same model. and yes even after super greasing and depressing the brake pedal w 200lb guy on it, Yes you still need to jiggle the unit back and forth to move the gears....FYI when you transport, do NOT leave it i park, put in "L" to transport.

What the reasoning behind putting it in Low instead of park when transporting ?

Any other gear than "park" as it must do a job on the smallest gear when the unit is shifting back n forth on a trailer in motion, being said,,,I've heard plenty of people doing it in park forever with zero issues and if you actually know how to do a tie down ratchet strap then maybe your good, but you'll never know until things begin popping out of gear on u.
But, the owners manual specifically states to put it in "L" when transporting.
I transport 3 CFMOTO's at once; my setup? I use each winch cable to the trailer d rings for the front and on the back I use ratchet straps to the rear A-Arms as they don't bounce, they're in "L", and have a long board i sliced to serve as a wheel chock...
But most importantly,, I REMOVE THE SEATS! ya, towed to Maine, left them on, got 4 hrs to cabin, missing 2 seats.. that bill hurt getting them overnighted thru fedex...

Roger that, I have/use Erickson tie downs that ratchet over both back wheels and has chalks bolted to the trailer, it doesn't move at all.

I know this is old but now that you say that mine flew off one time aswell. and it was due to the first seat latching bar being installed incorrectly it was turned the wrong way. flipped it over and now my seat actually latches.

Just a piece of mind to look.

I always put a bungee cord/ocky strap over my seat when towing on an open trailer. Haven't lost a seat yet.

Welcome! I had same issue in the beginning as well. Yes, you do need to press brake pedal and sometimes rock the machine as well. Also, sometimes I will shift to low gear but then just revs up and nothing or grind a little. I ended up adjusting the shift linkage a little and that helped. After awhile you learn how to finesse it and it will happen a lot less.

I have a 600 also and the only problem I've had was occasionally when trying to shift into low. What I found was when I shifted into low, I run the shift handle all the way up, and then let it fall back into the slot and that took care of any problem

Can you explain how to adjust the shift linkage?  I am having the same problem as everyone here... :(

I agree with wcwv. When I shift into low you have to go all the way up slightly past it and you'll see the notch there then it will go into gear.
By the way this is not just a problem with CF Moto. I had a 2017 Polaris sportsman 570 and that linkage was all out of whack it was grinding and clunking all the time

Hi from south of Norway.  :D
I have the 625 Touring, 21 model, still not fully broken in. Think this is the same model as 21 mod 600 Touring in US?. Anyway. I want to share my experience with hard shifting. From day one it was very hard/impossible to shift between any position, even on flat surfaces. I suspected that there was some pressure on the gearbox @ idle, removed the cover and had a look. I noticed that the primary moved in slightly and started pinching the belt, not enough to move the machine, but still some drag on the belt. When checking what spring I had, it was marked only with colors, no number visible, but i think it is 0951-1013 gold/yellow/blue 200 400. So the 200N upon engagement might be a little on the low side, so I decided to add a shim to increase the pre-tension slightly.
I took some measurements and 3D printed a shim (Nylon filament) for the spring. I did some testing with shim sizes and found 3,5mm was ok in my setup. The RPM was raised 100 RPM ish before engagement with the 3,5mm shim. If your setup is different, the shim requirement will be different.

I have also added some weights to the primary to lower the RPM. This will of course lower the engagement rpm, worsening the issue. So the combination 23g (16+7) weights, orginal spring Gold/Yellow/Blue (200N/400N) and 3,5mm shim appears to have the problem solved for me. Will perhaps change the shims to steel, but so far the shim holds up fine. Nylon can handle quite high temps and resist oil. The shim dimension is ID 35,5mm OD 50mm Thickness 3,5mm. Note there are some rounded edges inside the clutch housing, so make sure the shim is properly inserted to the bottom.

Best regards Torstein
