EPS stopped working!!!!
« on: January 24, 2021, 03:19:29 PM »
Everything was working as it should yesterday.  Then, last night it went down to -4, and today the power steering isn't working!!!  I thought it may be the snow packed around the wheels and cleaned it out to no avail.  I will be calling the dealer tomorrow to see if they can come and pick it up.  But, I was wondering if it will hurt something if I still drive it without the eps working.  This Uforce 500 is 2020 and only has 74 miles on it!  :-(

Thanks,
Jackie

Can't tell you if it will hurt it or not. It will depend on the issue. However I think would avoid...if possible.. leaving a snow-packed Chinese UTV out in negative temps though...Put it in a heated garage for a few hours and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply NM  :-)

I was thinking along the same lines about putting it in the garage with my salamander heater aimed at it to "hopefully" thaw this thing out.  If that doesn't work, I will see if I can get the dealer to come get it, or maybe rent a trailer to take it to them.  I just hope, if it needs parts, that they can get them and repair it quickly.  I depend on this machine so much during the winter to keep my driveway plowed and to haul my firewood to the house.

I will let you know if thawing it out helped   :-)

Thanks again,
Jackie

Okay, ... this morning it went down to -4 but I waited until the positive numbers to go out to check the SXS.  It started right up, as it always does, and the eps was working fine.  HHHmmmmm ????????   Anyway, I drove it into the garage and cranked up the salamander heater to thaw the machine out.  I got under it and removed any chunks of packed snow.  I kept it in the heated garage for several hours before taking it back out to the woodshed where it resides.  I also keep a battery tender on it when it's not being used.  I just figure it's easier on the machine with a fully charged battery for start up.  Tomorrow, I think I will still call the dealer to talk about what happened, just to see what they say.  Also, if it's documented then the eps quits at a later date, I "hopefully" will still be covered.  If anything changes, I will post again.  But, so far, so good!  :-)
