Mine has been doing that after an aftermarket belt was installed. Did you put undo stress on the machine like revving the engine while stuck or pulling something? Any burnt smell or smoke? Could simply be the belt slipping with glazed areas on it.

Been some loose clutch retainers so better have that checked right-a-way.

I know this is an old post but looking for some insight on this topic. I have a 2016 CFMOTO Uforce 500 HO EPS and I currently have the case apart replacing my seals, bearings and most important my crankshaft. I had my connecting rod at the main start disintegrating and have chips all over the case. I too had clunking at take of ONLY in high gear though. It only clunks when taking off slowly and wondering if anyone has a thought on the root cause? Since I have it apart I'd like to take a shot at repairing.

Thanks~

I have a bad clunk when taking off. Always had it...mostly cold but it's not from the transition, it's from all the loose parts of the rear gear case..mostly the axle splines and carrier and the coupler link between the engine and gear case. All you can do while in your transition is ensure all bearings are play-free, that thrust washers are correct, that the gears and dogs are in good shape and that the full engagement of any gear position lines-up with the detents.
