Did they redesign the shocks for 2016?  My dealer said the part number changed.  Can anyone confirm?

I checked both CMI (CFMoto Canada) and the US dealers parts systems, and the parts break downs for the 2016 EX models are not available. Not sure where you dealer would have gotten a new part number.

BTW I have 2016 EXs on the floor. I see no visible difference between the 2015s and 2016s.

As you may know I was having issues with my front shocks.  The springs were rubbing into the reservoirs.  I've had 3 shocks replaced so far.  My machine is in the dealer's shop now awaiting the upgraded shocks.  I was told that there is a new part number and it will take a while for them arrive.  That's fine, I'll wait.  My dealer (and CF Moto) has been awesome so far.

As I understand it, with the shorter a-arms of the 53s the shock mounts on the arms were moved in and required shorter bodies. I do know the rears on our 53s do hot have the piggy-backed reservoirs because of the proximity with the tire...but it looks to me like it would fit.

The front shocks do indeed have a new part number.  Mine were replaced under warranty.  There is a lot of information about the shocks in another thread.  http://cfmoto-forum.com/800ex800/shock-springs-rubbing-reservoir/

Ok, here is the dilly on the shocks.  I called my dealer yesterday and he advised me to call CFMOTO due to the technical questions I had.  So I called CFMOTO and spoke to the technical department.  The shocks do indeed have a new part number, but they are build to the same spec as the old shock p/n.  They changed manufacturer's so that is what made the p/n change.  So most likely they will eventually start rubbing again.  Now onto the back shocks, there was a problem with the 14 model back shocks leaking, they have heard nothing on the 15/16 models.  I advised him that I had a 15 and so did Bezerk1 and both experienced leaking issues/shock failure. I asked about the 1000-2000N vs 1000 - 4000N, he said those numbers mean nothing,  they were manufacturer specific. the shock he had in front of him had 1000 - 3500N on it.  I had asked if Elka was at all involved in the shocks, he said No.  The Canadian models used to have a low end Elka designed shock on it, but they since discontinued using them.

He did advise me that they are redesigning the shocks front and back.  Both will have the canisters angled out away from the spring. the rear will go to a single spring (no helper).  I had asked when they will be released and he said they are not even in production. A few demo models were released, but very limited. They are still in the testing phase.  they will start to appear on the 16 models once they have them nailed down.  I had asked how I get mine replaced with the new style.  He said they are not positive they will be a direct replacement to the old shock, those details are still being worked out.

I was on the phone with him for over 40 mins.  very knowledgeable. I also asked if there would be a recall, he said he doubts it due to the limited number of units affected.  I am hoping my dealer will get them replaced for me.  fingers crossed.

Before I hung up I asked about apparel.  He said there is a big race in Texas (I think) and they will be launching a new website and a whole line of shirts/jackets/hats/etc. I thin he said the race is in 2 weeks or so.  Not sure.

So there you have it , right from the horses mouth.

Hope this clears up the confusion.  I know if had answered all of my questions.

Purely speculation on my part, but I am guessing the race he mentioned is the mud nationals this month in Texas.  I saw on Facebook that CF Moto is advertising that they will be there.

No recall? I can't help but think that a huge number of us with EX models have had issues with our shocks. I have one front and one rear reservoir rubbing on the spring. And both front shocks are leaking fluid. I'm going to be having serious shock issues in the future and I'm gonna have to eat all those expenses. ugh  >:(

My new 800ex rt rear shock rebound adjustment. Failed. 199 miles. Dealer is replacing both rear shocks. Just waiting on shipment arrival. I noticed that all four shock heat up real quickly. My nephews shocks on his 14 rzr 800 are cool to the touch.

Seems kinda crappy, they arent issuing a TSB on these shocks. Saying that only a "FEW" models were affected is incorrect, as most of the 800EX owners are reporting these issues. Also, by them NOT providing a TSB for dealers with a revised "fix it kit" makes it even harder for dealers to know there IS a problem and makes getting the correct updated parts harder for them.

That being said, it is great that there actually is a revised shock set out there as verified by some fellas in the other shock thread. Problem is, its gonna be a crapshoot getting them.

The 2016 I test rode was puking oil from the reservior gasket, and had the dual rear springs on it as well. So, even the 2016 model EX is still getting the faulty shocks.
