Cf Moto 550 - oil/coolant weep hose
« on: August 02, 2022, 03:16:17 PM »
Hi from Sweden!

I have a 2018 550 with only 35 hours on it (45 miles).

I got the known leak at the clear hose going from the nipple underneath the waterpump, it's a few drops of oil AND coolant in it.

I've message two very big Cf Moto certified mechanics here in Sweden and asked them if this is normal and all of them said it is normal, but only if it's in small ammounts. I even said that they are alloud to replace the pump and all, but they said that wont change it and it's a waste of money.

What's is your opinion on this?

My opinion. Although its been somewhat normal for the mechanical seal to leak some on CFMotos (not anyone else's), especially when new, it is not normal for the oil seal to leak unless warn out...which should take many thousands of miles and many hundreds of running hours. Having one start this early indicates a problem with the seal (damaged), shaft(not true/straight) or bearing(allowing shaft movement). I would ensure the crank case vent tube is clear, open and has no kinks as and pressure inside would push oil through the seals...or worse, flip the seals outward. If all is good, either insist it get fixed or watch it close and oil seals don't slow and stop...they get worse. In the meantime if that tube is still clipped up, pull it and affix it so it hangs straight down allowing it to drain completely. You do not want any build-up in the weep chamber..of either coolant or oil.
