I think just pull it, turn the key on and flip it back and forth. I don't think it has to be moving. Also, look inside. There is a rail or something that moves the fork that I hear breaks sometimes. An easy fix..they say.

I've not had any issue with the actuator other than a couple bad o'rings leaking oil. How about a little back ground to the problem, did it ever work? If it did what happened?

Are you measuring voltages when say the relay's are good?

Both the actuator & the fork are reasonably priced if you are sure they are the problem. I would make sure both positive & negative voltages are getting to the actuator as commanded prior to taking anything apart.

Thanks for the reply and info! I have a relay tester so thats how i checked them. I was stuck on some slippery grass , so i stopped and the icon on the dash didnt go onto the 4x4 pic . I started up the ditch but didnt go into 4x4, Didnt use much because i just us around the ranch checking and doing things , I cant seem to get the wires off the actuator so i can test any ideas how they come off.

There should be a electric motor sound when you hit the 4x4 button. If you can get someone to hit the button and you can listen for it. If you can, than my money is on the plastic"arm" in there is broken.  I can't remember, but I thought there was a locking tab that needs to be pushed out so you can pop/push the tabs to get the harness free.

I just sent Wheels a PM, maybe he will chime in & school us a little how this thing works electrically. Looking @ the schematic it's a little confusing what position the relays are in related to switch position.

Relays clicking are a good indication power is good, the servo when it tries to switch is easy to hear.

I'll be home later and provide a wire layout for the 4x4, if the actuator sounds, then it is most likely the shift fork,

The wires don't come off the actuator, follow them & you will find a square 9 pin connector.

I've got one in my hand I'm going to see if I can get DC resistance measurements.

I tried taking some DC resistance measurements of the motor side, no luck.

These service manuals are not very good at all, so it's difficult with a problem like you are having.

Yes the service manual doesn't have a very good break down. Dealer wants me to bring it in but they are 2 hrs away so just not a easy trip , and cf moto just puts you back to the dealer so no tech support
