lost power steering yesterday . UPDATED 10/6/17
« on: October 16, 2017, 11:27:41 AM »
Lost the EPS on my rig yesterday. The eps is flashing on off while running..  I shut her down and restarted the rig and worked fine for a mile or so and lost it again.  Just passed 200 miles on rig when it happened. Has this happened to anyone else. Steers really weird when the eps quits.

Yep. happened to mine too, would stop working after every right turn, (Odd...) then worked again after restarting until the next right turn. They warrantied my ECM and cured the problem. I also found the fuse holder to the ECM slightly melted, and some of the connections to the ECM had some slight corrosion, but after cleaning those up there was no change, so took it in for warranty.

Picked up moto today. Dealer found nothing wrong with EPS. Mechanic said there is a sensor in the EPS that will shut it down when tire hits something hard.. Claimed it was a safety feature to protect EPS.. They also said no codes were set.. At least they have it on record..  Very nice people to work with .. HK Powersports in Hooksett NH .

Yes my 500HO quad is in the shop now just out of warranty and only about 260 miles. Similar to your description but only worked weird for about 10 seconds after restart and only did that twice before never working again. They tell me it's the EPS motor. We'll see…

Im just happy i brought it to dealer to get the problem on record.. Also had a problem of popping out of first gear and grinding like hell now and then but they could not get it to do it while they had it in shop....  Im thinking a build up of dust on the nylon slider under shifting bezel causing slider to bind and push gear selector back out of low..  As i said they are both on record now with dealer ..

My slider broke the first ride cause I think it was too short and got bound.. so I just cut a longer one from a 5-gallon bucket and it's been fine ever sense..only wish I had a black bucket...lol

Others have reported that issue of slipping out of low. As far as I know it's been traced back to the shifter linkage. It can get tweaked by forcing it into gear when it was new and stiff. Mine has only done it a couple times but it's always just because I don't get it all the way in. I figured out early on that you want to go as far forward as you can then let it come back to the low notch. Hope this helps.

Me too, as above. The design might contribute but I find that if I change the way I operate the controls and when shifting to low I keep a light pressure on the shifter while I get on and off again on the throttle, it snicks all the way into gear and never pops back out with the ugly grinding noise. Then too I've learned to recognize the feel when it snicks all the way into low, and I don't have to do anything else.
Me and the shifter have come to an understanding. It's all good. :D

I've had it not go all the way into low a couple times, it also doesn't go into park all the way sometimes. I have to get the wheels to move just a little to get it to shift easy finicky shifting bitch but I've gotten used to it.

I think the ripples in the slide cause the slide to hold dirt and dust causing it to stick and bunch up in the slots.. The pail is smooth all the way.. great idea

I know I'm a little late on this post but mine also is a bit hard to get in low. And as stated I also tend to keep pressure on the shifter when taking off. I also tend to leave it in gear when stopped on the trail. Mostly I do that when I stop on an incline because it's very hard to shift on an incline
