Alright guys so I scored a Yoshimura muffler from a buddy for really cheap, he sold his crotch rocket that it was for and sold the muffler to me for super cheap. $75.00! So I got her on tonight with very minimal fabrication and to my dismay it sounded awesome but was incredibly loud. I have 60% hearing loss in my left ear and it was so loud that it made my left ear drum tingle. She sounded like a Harley running straight pipes with no mufflers. If I was racing it I would probably go with this setup, however I do a lot of trail riding and having it be that loud would be obnoxious and probably get me a ticket. i slipped her off and put my factory setup back on. Anyone out there who is running an aftermarket muffler i could use some input from you. What muffler are you using and how loud is it. I talked to a guy at my CFMoto dealer and he said on his old Z600 he took the factory muffler and drilled out the exit to a 2inch and then drilled out the other end of the muffler and then welded a 2inch elbow in it as well. essentially making a dual exit single muffler. Anyone else done anything like this? I would like my 800 to have a little more lumpy sound to her but not be crazy loud like my setup today was. I'm going to hang onto the Yoshi incase i decided to do the competitive trail racing this summer. I could feel the torque increase as well as top end but when she sounds like Satan's Shovelhead Harley i just cant do it for everyday riding lol! Any input would be appreciated guys!

Sound is always the problem. I watched videos of people with the 2-brothers exhaust on theirs and it sounded way too loud and the fact that I would need a programmer took it off the table. That's when I did my stock muffler mod which even with the spark arrester took it to the edge of needed a programmer. The sound was OK, but like you, I have about 40% hearing loss in my left ear and after a few hours of riding I get that sensation in it...but I also have a Benz silencer I can put on that works well..except I hate hearing all that drive train noise. I have sense had a chance to ride with a guy with a 2-Brothers exhaust and it really wasn't all that loud after all...but it would still be too loud for my wife.

IDK, need more options.

I dont know what you did to make the Yosh so loud but I just did a custom Yosh exhaust on mine and its still on there and sounds great.  Here is a video I did of the comparison between stock and the Yosh.  Was yours louder than this?

I have the two brothers and yes its to loud for trail riding. I have buy a noise reducer for it that drop the sound by 7-9 dB .

If I understand in my case just remove the extinguishing sparks. And I have a bigger problem with the original filter passing dirt to the butterfly body. And that the foam filter I have it with oil.

I wish mine sounded like yours! I'm using a yoshi short muffler with a straight through design. I shoulda known it was gonna be loud as hell. I've ordered a small magnaflow from work and I'm going to run it instead. I'll post some videos when I get her installed.

The trouble with the stock filter is also caused by the poor design of the airbox. The "fresh air" are not Fresh...

The sound is nice, its softer than the Two Brothers

Mine is a Yoshimura TRS3 from a mid 2000's GSXR.  I love the sound and its not to loud at all.  it is also a straight through design.  Mine mounts right where the original muffler was so its got some bends but that probably helps with the sound some also.
