There's a guy that's put some pictures on the big bore kit post that shows the same damage to his, he had a water pump issue so yes it could be done to over heating.

I'm just thinking if it would be possible to find oversize bearing shells from another manufacturer and have the crank ground, instead of replacing the crank

I'm going to look into it, there is a guy local to me who's great at sourcing parts, my father in law has a Sunbeam which was built in 1935, he needed new pistons and they found out pistons from a Subaru fitted and she runs great, just looks odd with a short modern piston on a long old con rod

So, you had an overheating issue? Was it mild or severe, also how many miles at this failure, and curious as to oil type, thanks, and I hope you bring her back to life soon!

I would say it may have been mild, I didn't notice until we got home ::) Been using Motul semi synthetic motor bike oil, I changed it after the overheating. 5250 miles

Completely stripped now and on the back of the good bearing shell it has been stamped with STD which normally means there maybe other sizes available.

Going to the engineering shop next week to see if the crank can be saved if not we shall be looking to see if we can get oversized bearings.

I will say that apart from the bearing everything else looks great

Mortch sell red and blue (blue is oversize) so that's just cut my parts bill in half :)

I always hated that part..but a good parts washer helps.

We have a pressure washer in what looks like a sandblasting cabinet at work. It works so good that I was thinking of building one for home. I was thinking a heated tank, small washer pump, air gun for blowing off the parts and get that all in an old blasting cabinet. If I only had more shop space........

Yeah, I would have a parts washer too but space is limited, the buggy panels are outside under a tarp

I think the first thing I'm going to do is drain the engine oil and check for any metal, it seems to be a odd one, under engine braking the noise completely disappears as soon as the throttle is pressed it's back, it sounds bad enough to be big end failure but the engine has oil pressure and starts ok.
It's not a constant nocking but more like something has come loose, I have a thought it could be the wet clutch or the one way bearing.
.
At the same time, I began to listen to a noise that grew incredulous. First I thought piston, plucked cylinder and was oval. Touch the connecting rod and had play in bearing. I spent the bearing with 1500 km very bad. We disarmed and spent up to the crankshaft. I never buy a CFmoto again. I'm buying everything new, God willing this week I start putting everything together.
