Clutch and Belt
« on: October 26, 2021, 05:04:02 PM »
Has anyone had issues with burning out the clutch within the first few hundred KM on a ZForce 950 sport? from the day I bought the machine I heard a noise coming from the clutch and mentioned this at my dealer and they said it was normal but a short time after that the clutch burnt out about 40 miles in the woods.  I am not new to driving side by sides and I know the difference when driving in low or high. It has only been 2 months since the clutch and belt was replaced and now my dealership is saying the belt is burnt out again. I have not heard any issues or smelled anything but they keep saying it is burnt out and it is driver error.

I also had brake issues that they can not seem to resolve as well as differential fluid that keeps coming out when I drive it in High for to long.

There have been some clutch issues with the 1000s and 950s with some owners and certain driving styles. Much as been corrected with spring and weight changes which make for quicker and more solid engagements, helping the belts last much longer. However, if yours has toasted several belts already, it may be because the primary sheave is already warn a flat spot in the engagement area. If so, it will never retain a belt ever again and must be replaced. As for diff fluid, shops are overfilling the diffs. The old way was to fill it to the bottom of the fill hole. For CFM this is way over filed. They must go by the book only on volume. Brakes...I can't help you with but if it's air in the system,it takes a power bleeder to clear it...or back-bleeding. Standard bleeding unless done very quickly is ineffective.

Pull the belt cover and run a straight edge down inside the primary and look for anything that looks like this:

2015 Z Force 800 53/Trail EPS
Custom Air Intakes | Custom Exhaust Mod | SuperATV Harness | Custom Fenders | Custom Skid/Rock Sliders | 27" GBC Grim Reapers | Seizmik Mirrors |Конструктор Doors | Dr Pulley Sliders | 1.5" Wheel Spacers | BENZ Silencer (as needed) | SATV Flip Windshield W\ Rear Shield | Dual Light Bars | Diamond Plate Storage |7- 9.7" GPS Systems | Bandit Springs Rear & Gen-3 Shocks Front | Cage Chop Mod

As for your fluid, you need to measure it out.  I did the same thing when I first changed mind then blew diff fluid everywhere through the breather.  The rear is 400ml and the front is 330ml

I’ve had some issues with burning belts but I also have 32s.  Just got a gates and we’ll see what it does.  The clutch kit seemed to help a little.  Some of mine is the type of riding I do, but honesty, I never had issues with my old Rzr with the same abuse. I’m hoping the new gates belt will grip a little better.

I don’t know about the brakes but harbor freight sells a decent brake bleeder that’ll suck the air right out of the lines if that’s the problem.

Update: They are replacing the master cylinder for the brakes, realized they over filled the Diif fluid, identified that the ignition switch was faulty (not even part of the original issue), the gas pedal recall but said it wasn't needed at first but now it needs it and still working with CFMOTO on the clutch and belt. Some big issues for a machine that has spent half it's life in the shop and is only 9 months old. 20K well spent. Can not seem to get any response directly from CFMOTO they keep telling me to see my dealer but now my issue is with my dealer so how do you make a complaint for that? probably the last CFMOTO I buy. I liked it when it is working but did not spend 20K to only use it with my wife and then take it to the shop to be repaired.

To be honest, I bought mine from a friend that owns a dealership and I wouldn't trust them to repair anything on my z950. I'd rather go to a crackhead cuz the are usually not trained techs on CFMoto models.......that's here in NY so I'm not sure in other states.
