Thanks
I'll at least install the temp sensor and readout just to be sure.
Then, if I start seeing those high temps I'll install a blower.
Beings I'm in the boat repair business, I've got at least one around here somewhere 8)

Getting ready to add a bilge blower to my clutch inlet hose.
4" diameter blower blows 240 cfm.
My inlet tube is approx. 4" so I'm going to use 4" rubber plumbing couplings with hose clamps to install.
I will run it off a separate dash switch so I can turn off if desired!
I will do photos when completed. Saturday I hope!

DSTREEKER, did u remove the tube and cut it or cut it in place? Also what kind of connectors did u use? All the 4 inch connectors i can find at home supply stores are about 1in to big and 3 inch wont fit, and they have no 3.5 inch.

A basic question: do you use this blower to remove the air in the cvt box isn't it? So it is used as suction mode, isn't it?
What if we install it  inside the outer cvt inlet cone (just backside of the driver) with proper piping?

The CVT can generate heat in access of 200 degrees F. An electric motor would survive long pulling that air temp across it so..no, it does not suck it through the system, they always push-in fresh from the outside and push it through.

So how much cooler does this keep your belt.  I have burnt 2 belts on slow, technical, difficult trails.  I was running the Ultimax belt for the two. My stock one went due to someone else’s mistake while driving.  I ordered a fan but was wondering how much it was going to help.

This time I’m going back to a gates c 12 belt. That’s all I ever ran in my old Rzr and never had any issues.  FYI gates has three options for the 950 g, c12 and a red line.  I was unable to find a redline in stock anywhere.

Although it's true that heat can kill a belt, slipping one kills it...sometimes in just one rotation...and that can happen at any temperature. And seems many have their own idea as to what is too high for a belt temp but most will agree that as for discharge air temperature, 200F is about the line you want to stay under and all would agree the cooler the better. When mine gets to about 190 is when I kick my fan on and it will either stop climbing or reduce back to the 160/170 area. I'll leave it on if I am in a tough area but as soon as we are through it I'll turn it off. I only have a 3" inline that puts out 130CFM. True CVT fans put out much much more....and pull more amps as well...and cost a lot more..lol For me it worth having...and it and my CVT temp gauge has saved my belt many times already. I'm bump'n 2000 miles now on the original belt. With these tools, a bit of luck and a splash of common sense I might just make it to 3K. :)

Well I guess I’ll do it. Maybe the belt will make a deference too.

I’ve just never had this many issues.  The Rzr was a dry clutch as well. Now I did blow a belt off it once but I was being stupid pushing throw 30 inches of snow up hill.  Hopefully the fan and belt will make it survive. Not much else I can do already having a clutch work done too.

I did talk to my brother about this last time when I smoked it.  I basically fell sideways into a 4 foot v notch on my side.  I was I was trying to get one of my tires to grip the side of the bank to set me back up.  Forward didn’t work then reverse smoked it.  He said when I went back my tire got stuck under a rock.  So I guess that’s understandable.

If heat is a factor...and it doesn't sound like in your case it is so much...then if I had a 950 or larger machine, I would get a real CVT blower. Blasting 200cfm through there will keep the heat down. May also help to avoid some situations...lol I know...can't always do that. :)

You would think I would learn but I’m not sure it’ll ever happen.

Quick question tho.  When your fan kicks on how fast does it cool?

The gauge stops climbing within 10 seconds or so then it starts coming down. Takes about 3-4 minutes to drop 10 degrees I'd say. Longer if I'm still pushing it.

I got my blower installed!

Fit like a glove!

Just wanted to say thank you for this idea. I bought the exact same blower and 2 Fernco fittings from Lowe's. I am curious to see how it's holding up for you? The Ferncos are not rated for much heat at all. I'm putting some heat tape over mine just to be safe. Also installing a temp gauge. It was a PAIN to get the CVT intake tube off - I had to remove the entire back of the machine lol.

Been debating on a blower for my Zforce 800 Trail. I will move the CVT intake outside of the machine like NMK has done and install a temp gauge. If it continually runs hot, having the snorkel tube in the bed will make it easier to install a blower fan.

As for temp gauges, the youtube video below compares the expensive Razorback infrared gauge to the inexpensive Trailtech. After watching the comparison, I will splurge on the Razorback. The Razorback infrared is true belt temp, and shows immediate temp changes. The Trailtech is like a regular thermometer, just measuring the ambient air, which is affected by airflow in the CVT case.

If not interested in technical details of the gauges in the video, skip to 5:00 in the video to see the actual temp gauge differences.

Mine runs a lot hotter and gets there a lot faster for some reason.. but it is true, if you want exact belt temperatures, you have to read only the belt and IR is the only way to do that. For me I just needed to stay below 220 and I see keeping it below 200 on the Trail tech is a good idea. I also find that holding it at full shiftout at say above 25mph on roads makes it the hottest..at least air temps, and mine has got up to 213 so I assume the belt is over 230. So far no damage but it is a bit unnerving to know it is getting that hot.

As they showed in the video, they had up to a 40 degree difference between ambient air & belt temp.

After my CVT intake is rerouted into bed, I will experiment with a PVC Y-pipe similar to the one in the example photo. I will put the fan on the straight section and leave the side of the Y open. When belt temp climbs, turn on fan to see if it reduces belt temp. This concept has no restriction when fan is not running. Since I will be hauling / pulling alot of weight, with this setup I could just stop & let fan run for a couple minutes to help cool belt faster.

*EDITED* I couldn't find any pvc to work with the 3" blower, so I bought the 4" blower, link below. I have not checked pipe fittings yet. The 4" moves so much air, I'm going to install a rheostat to control speed. It is loud at full voltage. The opening is substantial, air flow should not be an issue when fan is off. I will not use a Y type fitting shown in other post.

I may just use flexible ducting to tie blower in to stock cvt intake.
