Is there somewhere that details a step by step engine removal from the chassis? We have one at /,000Km that is smoking and drinking oil!

I found the air inlet off the filter box and the filter clogged with dirt and the paper element ruined. crap has obviously got into the engine and eaten the rings as we had happen a lot on the GS Moons before Twin-Air filter were fitted, ( I am looking at fitting Optiflow filters) I have the Manuel which describes in good detail how to strip the engine from the rocker cover down but not getting the lump out of the chassis.

It looks a right pig to do so. Changing the belt required a good deal of seat and panel removal just to get to the two front CVT cover bolts.

and on the CVT , I have removed the left hand bolt of course but I cannot get the darn thing off of the crank;.

not sure but I would just start removing plastic and get the bed off. That's the way it looked it would come out to me.

That is how I see it too, Cargo box off, then sub-frame over engine, plastic behind seats, and  then disconnect everything and hoist out from above. Not exactly a dIY job in a shed, ;-)
