z500 Clutch Sliders
« on: January 03, 2021, 12:57:05 PM »
Hey Folks

Done alot of searching and wanted to see if anyone has changed out the sliders on your z500 like the z800 guys are doing. I am thinking either 25g stock sliders or 24g. My machine is stock except for clocked the secondary to c1. I ride with a passenger most times and carry a few items, I am also a big guy at 280 pounds.

Any thoughts or experience would be great and any info if the sliders are the same for the 800 and 500. Thanks alot

Had my 17 z500 apart last week to reclock to b2, which I am very pleased with, I did take the primary apart to clean it and I weighed the sliders, mine are 14g and grabs at a pretty low rpm compared to what my new c600, that only came with 10g, so I left the z alone, I did get a set of 14’s from the can-am guy and the 600 is so much better now. It’s all owner preference, if you change it and don’t like it, you can always go back, good luck

Ah I stand corrected then 14 gram is stock for the z500. I have found in the past that a slider just seems to help all around with the cvt, and I am a tinkerer so if its not broke ill break it LOL

Anyone have any info the size I know the 800s are 30x18 but what are these CVtech 500s? I think I might need to tune my primary better, my machine is clocked to c2 but even with that won't exceed 6900 rpm at about 90km/h. I would think I should be able to get this to the red line atleast.

I have pulled the throttle tube to check butterfly is at half open on full throttle so Its got be a clutching problem

I'm wondering who told you to go to C2...on a 500. No 500 does well over C1. Heck we don't even go to C2 on the 800s or 1000s unless they have over 30s and play in mud all the time.

That was a typo sorry C1 for me. Machine is running great, could use a little more on the take off (Also why I am interested in sliders) but even on the the snow in 2 wheel it won't hit the rev limiter.

Good to know it's on C1 not C2. Elevation also plays a role on power an engine can produce. For example I live around 5400 feet but ride in much high areas. On average an engine looses 3% of its power for every 1000 feet it is from sea level. So for me mine has around 16% less then it would have at sea level. If I get on a flat road without my windshield or rear window, I can get within a few hundred RPMs of the limiter and top out around 68MPH. Add the resistance of the windshield and that drops to less the 62MPH and a long ways from the limiter because my engine just doesn't have enough power to push it through that extra air resistance that the windshield creates. If I had that extra 16% back it probably would..at least get be back close. This effect is even more pronounced on smaller engines. That and add the extra resistance of even a little snow and they won't get close to the limiter either. Clutch tuning helps, but only helps get the engine to run closer to it's power band. There's only so much..in any engine. A little lighter flyweights will help at higher elevations...but be careful not to go too far. A little goes a long ways.

Makes sense to me, where I am is about 1600 feet above sea level. And yes deffinatly resistant from snow will slow that down I meant more in the sense of on ice ect I can put it to the floor and be in a full spin and not hit the limiter.
