Shifter sliding trim / seal.
« on: June 04, 2019, 04:08:48 PM »
My shifter slider trim / seal piece broke last ride. It had started binding the shifter goin into park probably due to dirt and debris getting in. I can order a replacement, but I was wondering if a there was another black flexible material I could fabricate a replacement out of that will not fail so quickly?

Mine broke the first day. I just took a white 5-gallon bucket and cut a strip out of t the same width and a little longer so it hung down a little more so it wouldn't bind, drilled my shifter shaft hole in the center, slapped it in and it's been good ever sense. Wish I had a black bucket..but didn't.

Nice solution NMK, I'm gonna try and find either black bucket to cut a replacement piece out of or just buy a blank sheet of black abs textured plastic off amazon. how much longer you recommend cutting the replacement piece?

As I recall I first made it about 4"s longer but after installing it I thing I had to trim a little off the ends cause all the way either direction it would touch the floor. I left it as long as possible cause it would slide better in the retainers and not try to bunch up. Remember it has to flex so keep it about as thick as "bucket-plastic" lol. Also cutting it from a bucket gave me a natural curve to start with but I supposed you could make any plastic curve with some heat.
