« on: April 12, 2021, 06:17:43 PM »
Can anybody tell mw which way the one way bearing on primary is supposed to turn?  I'm changing my belt and I pulled it off...I know...not smart....but I want to make sure I dont put it on backward.  I really appreciate your input.

Thanks

Think of it this way- it's first function is to be an idler for the belt. That means the belt rests on the outer race while the inner race is turned by the engine while sitting there idling. So, hold the outer race like the belt would.. and turn the inner race with your finger in the same direction the engine would be when running. If it turns without engageing, it's the right way, if not, flip it around.

Thanks for replying...but I'm a little confused....the crank spins clockwise ...so I also want the bearing to freespin clockwise?  I'm pretty new to this.

Yes, you want the outer race...that's the parts the belt sits against, to not move when the engine is running while you are not moving so..the inner will spin clockwise with the engine... and the outer race be effected and move.

The spragg only comes into operation when the outer race..driven by the belt, tries to rotate faster then the inner race...hence the name "overriding clutch".

A crude sketch of one would be like this:

Thanks.  I got it in and seems to be working ok.  I started it and drive it around..engine breaking works so must be ok...no unusual noise.

Thanks
