Traditional Day After Thanksgiving Ride
« on: December 01, 2025, 09:18:17 AM »
I was supposed to ride the weekend prior, but a number of issues happened while I was loading the CF Moto and my motto is if 3 things go wrong in a pretty short time frame, then I don't go through with my plans, well, 3 things happened, so I didn't go. Final issue being, I caught my finger in between the snap ring and the pin on the trailer tailgate, how do you even do that? That was enough to stop the ride.

I did go on the traditional after Thanksgiving ride, it used to be the "family ride", but the "family" no longer goes (I think I've mentioned that previously), anyway, it was a solo ride. Took the RZR this time, figured it needed to be driven. Started out seeing a large herd of elk, so that was nice. There were areas that had some decent snow, about 6" in some spots. The area got the first real snowfall the weekend before. The only wildlife the cooperated was the elk (2 herds). I did see some turkey, but couldn't get any photos, they can be pretty fast when they want to be. Covered about 67 miles in 11 1/2 hours or so. Was pretty cool all day, but I was able to take the heavier jacket off during a good part of the day. The last herd of elk I saw, I shut the RZR off to take some photos, it was dark enough to need headlights, after I took the photos when I restarted the RZR the battery was not happy and the battery light was flashing for a few seconds. The next stop (last one) I shut the lights off and let the RZR run a few minutes before shutting it off (the lights do go off when the key is shut off), when I restarted it, it did fine. I knew I was within decent walking distance to the truck, wouldn't have been fun, but could be done. Especially since I broke my last promise to myself to always remember my little jumper pack. The next day, the battery was toast. So another new battery. Overall, another nice ride. Took a couple of roads that I either haven't been on, or don't remember being on in the past. Here are some photos.

Had to break out my hand saw, didn't want to backtrack from here.

Barbed wire going through the wood

Looks light out, 3 second exposure, it was dark enough to need headlights
