Sunday Ride, first 3 hours solo
« on: November 10, 2025, 09:48:11 AM »
Got out to ride on the 9th, I met up with my old neighbor about 3 hours into the ride. 24 degrees to start, warmed up (plus we rode to lower elevation) but was back down to 28 when we finished the ride. 13 hours of riding and covered 86 miles. The 800XC crossed the 3,000 mile mark on the ride. I've been impressed by the 800XC, it has served me well for the 3,000 miles, almost no issues (knock on wood now that I've said that). The headlights are very good, just need to see if the high beams can be adjusted, they are just a little too high. Anyway, back to the ride. Saw some deer right out of the gate, that was the only wildlife except for an owl that flew off as we rode by. My old neighbor wanted to see the windmill that I rode to on my last solo ride. So I took him there, we went quite a bit further on that road and found the other windmill that I remembered being on that road. This was was non-functional, the propeller is no longer on it. The pond that I usually go to has frozen a little further in, but still not iced over and the ice is very thin. Overall, it was a very nice ride, got back later than planned since I work in the morning, but it is all good. My neighbor found quite a few rocks to take home, 1 geode. We are both aspiring rockhounds. I snagged a couple too, I didn't find a geode though. Most of what I find on rides are nodules since they have the crystalline inside, but are usually solid, not hollow. The one he found had a smaller hollow center. Here are some photos (sorry, no photo of the geode).
