Shot a little video when out on the desert yesterday testing the snorkels. Video wasn't worth doing anything with but did yield a couple of stills worth keeping.

Well, I was by my self but rode mostly the roads out there...about 10-15 miles then took it into the back country for some hill climbs and sandy trails. Got about 1/4" of dust and sand in the bed but didn't see anything on top of the snorkels. Got home and pulled the filters off and apart. Almost nothing in the CVT filter and couldn't detect anything in the engine's filter. Blew them out with air and just wasn't enough to see unless you were in the right light. So...I think it's safe to say..getting the intakes up a little does help. The real test will a week-long camping trip with people in front making dust. In any case it can't be as bad as it was.

Oh and B2 works just fine. And the most the CVT temp got up to was 178 on the road. On A2 it would get up to 190 with a clean filter and go up from there as it would get dirty....and it didn't take long.

It has been a long ride....getting the intake systems to function the way that you wanted them to, it looks as if you finally have your machine totally dialed in with all of the modifications that you have completed.

Did you use your fan to help keep the CVT temperature down?

I am in the middle of so many mods on mine right now, trying to accomplish a lot of what you have completed over the last two years in 3 months lol.

Yeah it has been a long ride to this point...and not a cheap one I might add. Times I wanted to toss-in the towel and just leave it alone but..being retires with time on my hands took care of that...lol. Well, she's a long-distance exploration machine now....hopefully.

When the CVT temp maxed-out..which was only 178 or so, I did flip the fan on to see what it would do. It did drop it by about 8 degrees in a couple minutes so it looks like it will help when it does get hot. A true CVT fan will put out well over 210 CFM and...cost over 200 bucks...and pull 6+ amps. This one is only 120 CFM, cost only 12 bucks and only pulls 2 amps.

I completely understand I have spent $3,500 in upgrades on mine in the past 2 months, funny how we can spend so much on our toys that came loaded from the factory :-\  I am waiting to see what your next project is.

This is funny, I remember making a comment in my very first post about money so I took a look at it and these are my first and last comments on that post

"I just stumbled across this forum a week ago and found a number of great threads, but you guys are going to cost me money....I found way too many cool things on this site and now I want to upgrade my antique, a 2012 Terracross 625EX."

"A rear windshield and LED lights should finish it up for me....until I find another modification on this site that looks interesting, oh yeah like getting rid of the inside air intake, will it ever stop."

I wonder how much more a true CVT fan would help before you hit the law of diminishing returns?

Well I for one won't worry about it until it becomes hard to keep it under 210 or so. I think without a filter the open input and discharge pumps plenty of air through it to keep it under that in most situations. It's just all that "other" stuff getting in there and being ground up into flower that's killing mine....well..slowly draining away it's life. But..having a filter fixes that.... if you can keep the airflow up. At least now when it starts to have a little trouble I can give it a little help...until I can clear the filter. Shoot on the last run with my some it only took 10 miles of dusty roads to plug up the filter and the temps were hitting 220. It was packed..three times I pulled the filter off and twice I tapped it out on a rock. The third time I just put on my spare..which was my old mushroom filter. So..something else just had to happen.

I wonder if the added fan is at all restricting the airflow, and if removed, would the temps would go down a little more on their own?

Just a thought.

I guess anything is possible. But it is running cooler then it was before. On the trails it's actually down into the 140 range. The other thing to consider is that originally, the intake end was choked-down to 2" where it had that a disk of material for a filter. It's now full 3" with sweeping fittings with that 3" fan inline. I did kinda check the flow rate when running at 3K in neutral by setting the fan unit on and taking it off the fitting to see if there was enough pull to hold it on enough to feel. Not very scientific I know but I couldn't really feel any and it didn't cause the fan blades to turn so I was thinking it might be OK.
