Another Saturday Ride
« on: June 01, 2026, 09:12:50 AM »
Was able to get out and ride again. Started the ride with the check engine light coming on, an oxygen sensor code, shut it off and restarted it and it was fine after that. Nice day for a ride, just a little too much wind, but the temperature was good. Saw some deer right away, then the only other wildlife was the normal chipmunks, squirrels and rabbits. I did see about 15 -20 turkeys, but they did not hang around for photos. It's amazing how fast turkeys can move when they want to. Had to move a downed log that was across the trail, fortunately I did not take my helmet off when I did that, the branch I grabbed to move the log snapped off when I tried to pull the log and that made me fall backwards, hit the back of my head hard enough on a rock that it caused my glasses to slam into my face and cut the bridge of my nose. Saw quite a few stars with that one. Without the helmet on it might have been a completely different outcome. Bruised my back, rear end and elbow, all things considered that wasn't too bad. My buddy showed up a few hours into the ride, so by the time this happened I wasn't alone. Just another reminder to be extra careful when I do ride alone. Also cost me about $300 to get my phone repaired since the back glass shattered, I had it in my pocket in it's Otterbox case. The ride ended with watching a group of cows / bulls fighting and some more deer at the end of the ride. Covered about 70 miles in 14 hours of riding. Here are some photos.

The wild Iris's are starting to flower.

We got some rain, but the Caldera is still looking brown.

Cicada that shed it's young body shell

The fighting bulls

Last deer of the ride, there was a buck with them, but I wasn't able to get a photo of him.

This one was a good reminder to be careful. Still very sore and have quite the headache. I'm guessing after a hard hit like it took, the helmet is probably going to need replaced. I've never had a direct hit on the helmet like that before.

Update to injury, apparently cracked some ribs on my back side. I discovered this while having to do some stuff in my truck and they decided to either fully crack or break, with a very loud, painful pop. So I guess I will not be riding for a little bit.

That was bad luck. Get well soon so we can see some more of the great country you ride in.

F'k...well, take it easy for a while...and don't cheat-it will just make it take longer. Maybe with some wrap you can use the sxs.

Thank you, I'm hoping that with a back brace I can ride in the RZR, the hard part will be lifting the tailgate / ramp on the trailer..and of course the bumps. We'll see how they feel getting closer to the weekend. I can move around better but still quite painful when I cough or sneeze. The occasional movement makes them pop still, which sucks.
