I took my UFORCE 800 to my local CFMOTO dealer after my oil lines failed during a ride. The dealer said it was covered under a recall and replaced the lines. My question is they told me that they tore into the engine and took pictures and sent to CFMOTO and were waiting for a response on whether the damage to the engine was caused by running it without oil after the oil lines failed. I took my new Z1000 in for it's 1st maintenance and notice my UFORCE sitting outside and it looked untouched, so I pulled the passenger seat and saw the engine was still in the unit. I went inside and questioned the girl at the service desk and she said that they reassembled it so they would misplace parts while waiting for a reply from CFMOTO. Not sure I believe them, what do you think?

I think they have to get an approval to replace or rebuild an engine after something like that but...to R&R and pull down an engine for photos...then reassemble and reinstall it is not something we ever did at Honda. We had procedures that inventoried and if necessary, stored all parts while waiting for a decision. But in those days it was a phone call and you had your answer. So...I think I would take what they say with a grain of salt..but that they may be on it regardless.

OMG that is awesome  ask to see the photo's  Of course you cannot believe the photo's either unless there is something that clearly identifies it is your motor.

I was involved in a court case with photo's of a defective motor, I kept staring @ the photo's knowing something was wrong ....... finally the wee light came on. They had two different engines in the photo's  Have to admit I had fun with that one when my turn to testify came about.

Thanks for the replies, I really can't believe that they would disassemble and then reassemble, the unit looks totally untouched to me. Makes me question whether I can trust whether or not they even try to get CFMOTO to pick up the bill or even actually tear into the motor. They called me after they fixed the oil lines and said I could pick it up, I asked if they looked at the engine and they said they didn't and said it seemed to run fine but was rather loud, I told them I wasn't in a hurry and wanted them to tear it down because I knew it ran without oil and from what I've read on this forum in the past the engine is probably wasted.

You are right. If it ran without oil pressure for even 30 seconds there will be major rod bearing and cylinder damage.

Doubt they tore it down then. I have a loud engine. Been that way since I bought it. I tried to get them to tear into it and the dealer told CMF it sounded normal. Which it doesn't. CFM wouldn't authorize them to look any deeper if it was deemed normal and CFM told me to run it put some miles on it and see if it got worse. Well 300 miles later it still sounds the same, I'm out of warranty by a year but I still don't think it's normal. But I highly doubt they tore down the motor and completely reassembled it... even if they did they would just hang the parts back on to keep things together and move it around. My noise is from the right side of the jug front piston. Can hear it clacking away with a stethoscope. Don't hear it on the rear cylinder. Don't hear that noise on any other engines they starter for me.. It was pretty comical the blow off I got from the dealer.. But anyway it is still running, pretty sure it is the wrist pin or a bearing that will let go eventually then I will rebuild it, other than that and a low oil pressure light that comes on sometimes... It's been good lol.

I'm not sure, they say they did but the unit looks untouched to me. When I questioned the girl in service she said they took it apart and reassembled, not sure how much labor it is to tear it apart. Would they have to remove the engine to do so? None of the plastic on the cosole looks like it has been removed. I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think they would completely reassemble the unit knowing they may/should have to rebuild the engine, what do you think? My gut tells me they are lying to me and are going to try to give it back to me without doing anything.

So it was running fine before the oil lines failed and there is engine damage after the oil lines failed.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Yes, that is how it happened. What is funny id the night before the ride when the oil lines failed I had my new Z1000 delivered by the salesman that I bought the new Z1000 from because my old trailer was only 5' wide and the Z1000 wouldn't fit, he took the Uforce for a short ride for me to listen to it because I thought it was rather loud, always has been, he said it was normal for the Uforce's to be that loud and not to worry, the next day we went for a 4 hour ride and my girlfriend's daughter drove the Uforce, about 1 mile before getting back we were behind the Uforce and my girlfriend noticed that it was smoking so I beeped the horn and had her pull over thinking it was overheating. It only had 2 bars and then I checked the oil and it didn't register on the dipstick so I towed it back and filled the oil and restarted, I looked under the unit and saw it was spewing oil from the from the oil lines. If their salesman drove it the night before and new it was running fine that right there should be enough to ensure any damage was caused by the oil line failure. I've had the Uforce for 2-1/2 years and it always ran strong, never used oil, but was always rather loud.

Sounds to me like you saved it from catastrophic failure. If you need re assurance get an oil pressure gauge on it & see where it is.

I would say being overly critical of noise after what happened is normal, your noting it being loud prior to the problem suggest to me it's OK. Especially if it is running as normal.

It maybe like getting your vehicle out of the body shop after a wreck, you look more closely @ the fit & finish. When it's new you just assume it's perfect & never look to close, then the body shop guys work on it & all of sudden.....it matters!

Myself I would have issue with being told different stories, if it was an honest error fair enough & move on.

I agree, but what I forgot to state is that when the girl in service called me after they replaced the oil lines she said that the tech said it was unusually loud, then I refused to take it without them looking further into it. Guess what I am really asking is if they would actually take the engine apart to take pictures an reassemble? I would think that would be a major waste of labor. Does anyone know if you can tear engine apart while it is still in the unit? I just want someone with experience working on these to give me  answers so that I can go back and call them out on them not tearing into the engine as they are stating, if that is the case.

Ypu might pull the top end but you can not split the case while in the frame.
