2010 Uforce wont charge
« on: July 29, 2019, 06:27:21 AM »
Good afternoon all,

I'm new here and only just found the forum.

We have a 2010 Uforce (i think) 500cc (CF188 engine) and it wont charge.

We have changed the reg/rec with a different model (from a quadzilla as advised) but still having issues.

We have good voltage (35V AC) going in from the stator and on the red with white stripe and green wire we get a good voltage reading of 13.4V.

But when checked at the battery we are only getting 12.73V when running (12.6v with everything turned off) so somthing is stopping the charging current getting to the battery. With the engine off and on the same wires we get a voltage reading of 12v so the bettery is connected.

The only other thing we have noticed and not sure if we need to wire it back it in is - on the old reg/rec there was a 3rd wire coming out (Black) which turns out to be a switched live. This is now not pluged in.

Does this need to be wired into the red to give power to both but then if we do, it will not be a switched live any more???

Hope someone gets the above and what i mean and can help.

Thanks
Michael

There were no U-Forces back in 2010 but there was a rancher 500. In any case they used a three phase a/c generator so there should be a voltage between any two of the outputs in in the 34-37volt range. If one set is lower it will mean one coil in the stator is toast...which is common. Your end voltage after the rectifier/regulator supports that there is a stator issue. It could be a connection or battery issue but running you need to be above 14 volts. The U-force manual we have may not help you as they are a very different animal then the early models but...maybe. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply,

i have just looked online at the rancher and yes thats what we have.

The voltage across 2 of the 3 pins (A-B, B-C & C-A) is all the same and does go up to 40-50V when rev'd. As does the output voltage on the Reg/Rec.

Directly after the Reg/Rec the voltage is 13.4V + but at the battery its not. The battery is brand new as well as the Reg/Rec.

The one thing we have seen is (Mostly on motorbikes) that people with problems just wire the Reg/Rec directly to the battery with a 20amp fuse, so compleatly taking out the factory wiring loom faults etc.

Thanks Michael

Some do go directly to the battery but most feed the accessory circuit first on it's way back to the battery. But you say you are under 14 volts directly off the rectifier which makes me wonder about it or some poor common/ground somewhere. Your stator voltages seem normal enough so...might even check resistance through the main fuse holder and any other connector in it's path. There have been a lot of poor internal crimps with CFM's suppliers.

I'm curious what lead to replacing the battery and reg/rec in the first place.

I agree with Clark that it is worth while checking and cleaning all the connections and grounds between the regulator and the battery.

And did you have the new battery bench tested? One bad cell will draw down the voltage.
