I can not confirm that the fan turned on tonight but I didn't over heat and the bike didn't feel as warm as it usually is. I think I can close the book on my heating issues and move on to my gauge issue and have some rear brake issues to tackle. Thanks for the help

I was reading about how with a clean rad it probably won't run the fan from idle especially now that it's getting cold now, so will take it for a rip in a little bit and see if it comes on or over heats

Unplugged the rad with water and coil cleaner foam. Then started the bike up and now the fan won't go on unless it's jumped. Had a few air bubbles when I removed rad cap so I guess I'll need to raise the front end again and see if I can get this thing running properly again. What a headache are all bites this much of a pain in the ass when it comes to cooling

Raised the front end of the bike and got alot of air out of the system. Ran the bike 3 times kept topping up the rad after each time I ran it until the coolant stopped going down and the fan was cycling like normal. Noticed behind the oil cooler the rad is pretty plugged with dried mud so going to remove the oil cooler and blast the rad this weekend. The water temp sensor wasn't reading do to a bad connection I believe, when I played with the wires it would start working so again this week I hope to clean up the connection maybe cut out a kink that was in the wires. So still have some work to do but once I get all those things done it should be good to go

I just sold my 800 yesterday, hoping I don't need to dump the 500 as well lol

Ok will try this tomorrow, you think when I replaced the thermostat it may have caused an air lock?

I read if I run the bike with the rad cap off I should be able to see the coolant circulating, which when I do so I don't see any circulation I'm worried the different thermostat is making things worse

I believe the thermal switch is still working, jumping the fan starts the fan but seems as if the engine is over heating. Makes me think it's not getting proper circulation as before the thermostat replacement the fan was cycling normally. Just running out of ideas here the only things left to replace on the cooling system is the temperature sensor on the cylinder and the water pump.

Installed a new thermostat, the new one was slightly different then the old thermostat. The bike is definitely running worse with the new thermostat, the fan isn't kicking on at all making me think the coolant isn't circulating enough. Other then putting the old thermostat back in I'm not too sure what my next move will be. I'm really curious about the pump, is there anyways to tell if it needs to be replaced other then just replacing it?

Can anyone suggest a good aftermarket air filter and part number  for this bike?

I bought it used and it's really only had a couple rides by me. I asked the dealer about trading in and he said he wouldn't give me much for it so I'm forced to kind of fix it so i don't walk away with nothing.

I have a 2014 terralander 800, last year I took it to the dealer to fix a variety of electrical issues (Rad fan, fuel pump, gauges not working). First time around cost me just shy of $2000. now 2 rides later I have an O2 sensor code flashing, the dealer told me to replace the o2 sensor in number 1 cylinder. I changed the sensor and now the code is still flashing after 15mins of riding and my bike is gut less and randomly has all its power or bogs down to having very little power and sounds awful. Without looking at it the dealer wants to replace the entire wire harness, I was wondering if any one can point me in a direction before I pay another $2000 on this thing.

General Discussion / 2014 trail tracker running hot
September 26, 2021, 02:21:37 PM
Took the bike for a ride this weekend. We had to do alot of road running to get to the trails, seemed like 30mins of driving at 70km the bike wasn't able to cool fast enough and the bike was getting too hot causing the MIL light to come on. Once we got to the trail the bike ran good no MIL light for the entire trail ride. On the way back was about 45 mins of road running and again the bike ran hot again. Any ideas on how I can get the bike to run cooler? Possibly a new water pump? Temp gauge is not currently registering so the dash didn't display any bars the entire ride but you can tell the bike is running hot, I can smell and feel the heat coming from it while running the road. I can only assume when the MIL light is coming on it's due to overheating. Rad is full of coolant, rad fan and switch is functioning, going to replace the temp sensor on the cylinder in hopes the it will register the temp again on the gauge. I just need to know if I can correct this or if I'm wasting my time?
