Oh you don't want to DYI one of these. Takes special tools you won't ever use again and more parts to do it right then one ever knows until pulled down. I quit doing them myself years ago. I send my stuff to nFlow now. Good people and great warranty. It would be about 2,600...ish

it seems like you should have done a compression test. Swabbing the intake can be subjective... sometimes obvious but a compression test would have given you better information to base your decision.

Top end rebuild = zero special tools
Complete rebuild = flywheel puller and a spanner socket

I kinda agree with Z8 on this, that would give you some indication of cly. condition.
Also agree with NMK about the filter, the stock one is not oiled, if it was a good deal
might be worth a revisit.

Too late now. Defenetly 2nd guessing myself. I feel like I passed up a good one for a good deal. But maybe it's for the better. I have 2 boys I need to get a 4 seater.

I am starting to second guess the whole cfmoto idea.
Simple thing means it's a total bust with in the 1st 1k miles.
I am starting to shift gears to wildcat maybe.
Nothing wrong with a WildCat. Do check the same things though. Dust kills everything.

When you say Wildcat is that a Textron or and Arctic Cat ?

The gold standard is a compression test and leakdown test. Regardless what might be seen on the intake tract, any damage can be measured.
At well under 1000 Km and running the stock foam air filter element I found dust in my intake tract and T/B butterfly, and I read dire predictions of my motor's impending doom and inevitable destruction.
At this time and after having taken a cue from that dust evidence, after replacing the air filter for a UNI, isolating the intake air source to the cab interior grill alone, and continuing to ride the SXS I now have over 3500 kilometers on it at every conceivable altitude, temperature, climate, and running surface from Utah desert to BC winter in the mountains, and the 800 has excellent compression, runs strong and doesn't consume any detectable bit of oil between changes. Good enough for me.
Bottom line, if a CF Moto engine has damage, you can determine that and if it doesn't you can determine that too. I figure if it measures good compression and runs well then it's unlikely to carry a 'curse' that's going to ruin it from that point forward, no matter what you do.
I'd say inspect any CF Moto you find as you would any ATV with an unknown history, and decide from there.
