new c force
« on: August 07, 2016, 02:30:10 AM »
hi guys, newbie here, just bought a CF moto 800 quad, I bought it second hand, but it was only 4 months old with about 700 miles on the clock, the last owner did the 250 mile service, I was about to do the second service, but the bike has just died on me, total loss of power, no dash lights, nothing?
tried all the fuses etc, nothing obvious that stick out??
any ideas guys?? the bike has not even seen the mud yet, just a few miles road use, will I be covered with warranty? being the 2nd owner, I'm in the UK.
cheers.

There might be a main fuse by the battery. I would think you are still under warranty, but might be different where you live in transfers.

I believe that the warranty applies to the bike NOT the owner.
I'd say it's a fuse issue as well.
Call your dealer and they can tell you if it's covered.
Congrats AND sorry at the same time.
Good luck!!

well............. after a few hours of tinkering around with the quad, I finally worked out the problem??
ignition switch burnt out! there are only 2 wires at the back of the ignition barrel, one black and one red, I cut them in the middle leaving about 3 inch of wire attached to the barrel, in case I had to splice them back together, I simply twisted the black and red wire together, making a circuit (just like the key would) pressed the start button, and hey presto! the quad came to life, boy.... this quad would be so easy to steal without a key !

so now to find a replacement ignition barrel ??? wonder if I can get some sort of upgrade??

Thanks, Next time someone looses a key I'll be ready. I would think any key switch that will fit in there will work, but just call the dealer and they might even mail you a new switch.

no luck with the warranty, here in the UK,  for some reason it only applies to the first owner from new, seems the warranty is NOT valid once CF moto products become 2nd hand, pretty poor show really, as other brands like Yamaha, Honda etc., the warranty stays with the machine.
I called 3 dealers and they all said the same.

You should be able to pick up something that will work. It should be a 4 terminal connector on it. Pull it out and mesure the diameter of it too. Just searched atv ignition switch and found a lot of them.

its only a 2 terminal /single switch, on/off, got one from a local breakers (junk yard) works fine , main dealer wanted £65 ($100) its from a Honda, so will probably be better made than a Chinese one.

What ever gets you riding again is just fine. Honda is usually pretty good. I would think that it's not going to give you any problems.
