Hi all. It was time for my son to jump to a larger atv so I picked up this 2020 500s. I'm a polaris rider myself and personally ride a sportsman 850 and had never really considered CFM before. I knew who they were and had heard good things but polaris has served me well so I never thought seriously about CFM. But when pricing out smaller CC machines, none of the other OEM's come close to what CFM offers out of the box for the money. I figured I'd just grab a sportsman 450 and be done with it. But to get one with eps - a winch - nicer wheels etc would have been $5000 more after tax than I paid for this 2020 500 used with only 30hrs and 300 kms on it.. Even if I had bought new, the CFM is still $2000 less than a base model 400 class machine from the other "major" brands. If I added CFM's standard options on a new CF400 to a new sportsman 450 it's about a $3000 difference. And the CFM still has a few things none of the others have with the horn, turn signals and trailer wiring. The power and ride on a sportsman 450 or any of the others simply isn't $3000 better than CFM. Maybe in the early years but not now. Finding this 500s was just right place right time. I was going to buy new but this old guy with to much money I guess, simply wasn't using this thing. When I called him he said he priced it low because he didn't want to deal with any fuss and didn't want to have to show it to 10 people to get it sold. He had bought a new SXS and just wanted to be done with it. Anyway. I don't post a lot on any forum but I appreciate the info I was able to gather here before going ahead with CFM and who knows. I might even convert over myself one day. But I can tell you that my son is thrilled with the 500s so far.
