Sometimes mine binds a bit and I have to push down on the back side of the seat base to allow the latch to release.

My handle actually snapped off...I have found the lock assembly and ordered, but I am still unsure how I am going to remove the seat in an alternate way, sans handle.....

You are going to have to get back there with a short flathead screwdriver and get under the mount and pry it open - probably best with 2 people so someone else can put pressure on the seat
