zforce 800 noise
« on: April 02, 2019, 09:03:10 AM »
Well, I tore into the clutch of the 2015 zforce 800 I bought sat and really don't see anything bad wrong. The clutch housing is blue , assuming it's been hot. It also has pretty deep grooves in it. The clutch housing bearing feels a little tight also. Not knowing much about these things I decided to replace everything so I ordered the wet clutch assembly, a new clutch housing, bearing and seal, new rollers, and new pulleys. So most of the clutch will be new. It sounded like there were rocks in the clutch when it was running.

One thing I'm still not sure of is : when I took off the wet clutch case there was very little oil in there, everything was just barely wet,, does the wet clutch get it's oil from the engine or does the area where the clutch is have to filled with oil separately? If it gets oil from the engine I would think there would have been a lot more oil laying in there. Any ideas?

It gets it from the engine and there either is this oil line on top or on later revisions they plugged it and feed it internally There should also be the spray from the crank's main bearing and chain on that side as well.

It should not have been blue so someone before you let it slip a lot or did not use a JASO MA2 approved oil. If you will be traveling at or below 5mph for a while, use low range to ensure that wet clutch is fully engaged. Take a close look at the belt now too..it may be glazed or damaged. Gates makes a decent aftermarket belt that doesn't cost a fortune.

This is the oil supply line on the older versions:

Thanks for the reply,, mine doesn't have that line so it must be getting it's oil internally. There was very little oil in the case when I took it off, I expected to see oil run out of the case when I broke it loose. I have the complete wet clutch assembly ordered as I wasn't sure where my problem is. The case had been broken at some time and repaired so I ordered that also. The guy I bought his machine off of looked like he ran the crap out of it and did no maintenance or cleaning on it. Maybe where the case was broken something was out of alignment. The  bearing race in the clutch housing for the one way bearing was also very rough as was the cover bearing. This is my first UTV and I'm learning about how everything works on them. All my other atv's all had auto trans or gears. The belt looks like it's pretty new. Hopefully with just about all of the clutch assembly getting replaced it will be ok. One more question,, should I soak the new wet clutch assembly in oil before installing it?

Yes, good idea. Also find the oil port for that bearing and follow it back. Make sure its open and not blocked in any way. Odd about the oil...had me a little worried as people say they have to drain their oil first otherwise it's all over the place when they pull that cover. Shoot some pics and post them.

Yeah..my oil line port is plugged too. I think somewhere in mid 2015 they started doing that. Still..it has to get oil from somewhere...that inner bearing and wet clutch won't live without oil. Also, that cover bearing should be smooth. It's hard to get out without a puller and some heat on the cover. Any time I have my cover off I pop the retainer and the seal, then with my finger push wheel bearing grease through from the back side to the front. Then slap it back together.
