Wix filter in Cforce 400
« on: November 24, 2021, 07:55:28 AM »
I did the first service in our Cforce 400 and used a wix cartridge filter instead of the cfmoto oem. I noticed it "felt" longer than oem because when installing the cap, I had to push the filter cover in to make it flush and put the bolts back in. With the oem or Hiflo filters on my other machine, the cap just goes right on and sits there waiting for bolts. I will measure at the next service to see if its just the rubber gasket being thicker or if the filter itself is bigger. Also just and odd observation, When I start my four wheeler with the oem or the Hiflo filter in it, the oil light flashes 3-4 times and goes off. With the Wix filter, I get 2 flashes every time. Not saying that's good or bad, just an observation.

I'd be worried that the added pressure on the grommet might distort it enough to leak and let stuff by-pass..damaging bearings and such. The pressure switch is after the filter so for some reason it's pressuring-up quicker. That may be because the filter is less restrictive...or it's by-passing. As I recall all these do have a by-pass valve on the bottom..the end that's firmly smashed against the cover. Wonder what it might be doing... When I was researching the spin-on adapter and other filters I found several issues with other filters that would cause the grommet not to seal to the post and to the filter base...and that they had different specs from the CFM. As for filters the only one that provided enough pressure to seal to the post and expand enough to seal to the filter without any question of seal was.. the CFM filter. All others fit the post and/or the filter base too loosely...IMO. In fairness I did not test the Wix filter though. Only the Highflow and K&N for the Rotax 800. But is sounds too long anyway. Here is some of the measurements I took at the time.
