I have wondered about CF Moto's recommendation of 10# front and 14# rear, a teeth jarring degree of hardness for a SXS tire. When I had the stock tires on I lightened the pressures to 7 and 9. Now I start to think that CF Moto's odd recommendation of 10 and 14 pounds might have been their way to eke out a bit more ride height from their lowrider SXS platform.
The (also Chinese) Wanda 26" tires I put on recently are a rather stiff sidewall design and otherwise look to be an homage to the Bighorn. (Ok pretty much a copy)
I found that airing them down to 6# and 7# give the machine much nicer manners on the trail. As it happens these Wanda tires are stiff enough that even when I aired them down to 2 PSI for deepening Kootenay snow they still stood the SXS up quite well and didn't look nearly flat at all.
Of course there's a chance of snake-bite type puncture when you run really soft pressures with a soft sidewall tire and you hit something just so. The stock tires were soft sidewall.
Only thing with running ATV-like tire pressures is that there's a measured loss of about 3/4" of ground clearance over running the higher pressures, hence my wondering if CF Moto weren't motivated by gaining a bit more valuable and scarce ground clearance, when they tell SXS owners to run their tires so bloody hard.
Sure rides nicer now.
