Stuck, Frozen or Seized Gas Pedal on start up
« on: March 26, 2018, 01:20:57 PM »
Bought a used 2016 800 Zforce EX   905 miles on it brought it home from a dealer, it was sitting outside there for ohhh  6 months .  Drove it on and off the trailer and once around the yard  and then put in my barn a month ago.

Went to start and move it fired up fine but when I when to step on the gas nothing not matter if I put in and gear  4x4 or 2x4  I push and put a lot of weight on it but would not budge.  Any inputs would be most helpful on what where it check  and a picture is worth a 1000 words ........

Thanks in advance

Well it's pretty simple-if the cable has moisture in it and it is cold enough in the barn to freeze, its frozen. Just put some heat to it to thaw it, then I would get a cable-luber and force all that water out of it. The cable is quite small so don't force it otherwise it will break.

The cable goes through the console and of you look on the passenger side wheel well low at the back you can see where the oil and coolant lines come through. Force heat back in there and it should get the cable warm enough to thaw.

Well you were correct  as the temp raised the cable is now free again.  Never thought a cable could freeze.

Thanks for you help

Grab yourself one of these luber kits and do all the cables every fall..no more issues and cables last almost forever.

It's not as though I have a dog in the fight, but I wonder about the judgement of a dealership that leaves a new SXS out in the weather for six months, exposed enough that the throttle cable has water enough between the cable and casing to freeze.  ???

I'm almost thinking the previous owner had it "Deep" a few times and that water has been sitting in there a long while..probably lots of rust by now...better lube it regardless :) Come to think about it....I better do mine too. Didn't do it last fall but wasn't in any water...and mine stays in a heated shop. That one can of lube has lasted me over 10 years now.

First   Thanks for the cable lube advice    will do its on order now.

Sitting outside up here in The North Country ,  is every dealers inventory , new and used  ( a couple new ones inside ) is out side to battle the elements  and usually under mounds of snow. I cringe every time I drive by.  But as mentioned yes time to lube up everything I possibly can  but at least its inside for the rest of her days. ;D

Now just have to wait for mud season to end and trails to open so I can take it out and hav at it !!!!

Wow..moisture...snow...rain..something we get almost none of here..most always dry and dusty here.  A little sprinkle here is considered a gift from God and everyone loads-up to ride before the dust returns..in 15-20 minutes usually. Almost no snow in the mountains this year..fire restrictions are already in effect. It's going to be a very hot and dry summer here.

Well where I am at Every morning I collect 2 1/2 gallons of water off my small roof of morning dew late may through early oct . Pretty green up here year round ( when no snow obstructing ) but yes still gets dusty on the trail.  Saw an air filter recommendation .  I just ordered the UNI for mine.
