Oh I'm sure you can add an extra filter...just don't make it look like a snorkel. Something like my first version should be fine.

Wow! That's interesting. I guess I don't understand why it would be illegal to protect your atv from water intrusion.

Yeah that's the start of it. There's more on re-piping and a different air filter.

May be because up there they have protected wetlands and a snorkeled machine means you are equipped to do damage to something that is protected.

In some cases it is permitted:

http://www.maine.gov/ifw/atv-snowmobile/atv/laws-rules.html

26. Prohibited equipment. A person may not operate an ATV that is equipped with a snorkel kit or other equipment designed to allow the ATV to be used in deep water except with the permission of the owner of the land on which the ATV is operated or as provided in section 13159.

§13159 – Racing meets.

Notwithstanding section 13155 and section 13157-A, subsection 16, paragraph A, subsection 17, and subsection 25 ATVs used exclusively for scheduled racing meets and operated solely on predefined race courses are exempt from the provisions of this chapter concerning registration, mufflers, snorkel kits, and lights during the time of operation at these meets and at all prerace practices at the location of the meets.

Sounds like an extra law they enacted because someone didn't know how to obey the rules. Down here in Texas it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle in rivers or waterways. But you can drown it in all the mud holes you want LOL. Some of the ATV parks around here are in low lands around rivers. Just stay out of the actual river and you're good.

It sure was not for him. he was on state property with a snorkel machine  ..  That must be the catch..... He was also filmed on some maine law program for TV.. He and his wife. His wife told the producer she would sue them if they showed it on TV . ... Lol

That show would be "North Woods Law".

They've already had episodes where they've warned people about illegal snorkels.

Can't be on state land with them, but private land is OK.

Yes. The show is made in cooperation with the state. There is a New Hampshire version as well, and we are likely to see some scenes from RZR CampGround and the ATV Festival held in Berlin NH last summer as they were filming at that time.
