Hey guys, my 16 z500 air intake really sucks in a lot of dust by the evidence inside the air filter housing and on my recently installed uni filter, so glad I replaced the stock.  So I purchased a 30 PPI uni filter sheet and fabricated a pre filter that slips over the intake neck between the seats. I replaced the stock push pins on the cover panel with push rivets that are user friendly to remove. I hot melt glued the filter ends together and oiled in the same manner as my primary intake filter. I haven't taken it for a ride yet, but I'll update on the results. Any feedback on what I did is appreciated.

That's nice but...it will get fully blocked very soon and starve the engine of air. Best move that intake out of that area. Lots of ideas in the How Tos.

True,  it'll get blocked off if I don't keep a check on it, but I plan on inspecting and/or cleaning it after each ride. The rivet style push pins remove very easily with the tip of a nail punch to remove the trim cover between the seats to access. Thanks for the input.

Oh...I mean it will collect enough dirt and dust in a few dusty miles to start restricting it. Check it often.

I did the same thing on my 2018 z500 ho & my cousins 2019 Z800. It works well. The only thing different thing I did is I drilled a 1.5 hole in the front of the intake on mine not his. His will plug up faster than mine. We pull them out after each ride & (WASH THEM OUT) . Install them before each ride. The Uni filters stay clean motor stays safe..

I boxed my intake off so that the intake plenum can only get air from inside the cab through the grill. Urgent mid-camping quadding trip repair. :) Utah is some dusty.
A guy really has to do something to get the motor`s air supply drawn from a cleaner place than the stock joke.

setup I put on my Z1000. got the idea from the write up on this forum. Specter brand filter from Auto Zone. Filter Wears makes the outer cover for it. The dealer had already made modifications with a small 1-1/4-ish pvc pipe in same location. Opened it up to 3". silicone 90. 3" turbo pipe/barbs.
