TOTAL, with the front (top half) AND rear.. [both cut from the same piece]
$60 in plexi safety glass
Another $30 or so in hardware. Both were under $100 bill.
However, the stuff that NMKawierider is talking about or using Lexan will be very expensive.
The stuff I used can split and break. I have had limbs, rocks, mud and power washer hitting it without any failure. Even when it was extremely cold over the winter.
Now as far as a crash goes.....well the other material would hold up much better.
But if you want something that protects you from the elements and flying debris then this has been working great for me. And the top half can be removed quick by taking out the wing bolt in the picture.
So.... To answer you, we are BOTH correct, just depends on what level of protection you want out of it. As per this thread we're only talking dust lol.
Just tape the holes you want to drill so it does not split the glass.

(Side note) you CAN get that factory bend in this glass as well using a cheap heat gun.
It would make it more firm, I still think I'm going to do that once it gets warmer outside.

We use Lexan 9034 and Mar-Resistant MR10 Lexan and they are both DOT approved so it's yeah, its a bit more expensive. 9034 Lexan has 250 times the impact strength of glass, it's tough stuff. We can still do a Lexan Windshield & Lexan Back Panel combo from $379.99 for the Z8 & $429.99 the UForce though.
Pacific Eagle UTV Enclosures were the first manufacture to support CF Moto with aftermarket Cab Enclosures and Windshields. Today we manufacture 32 Cab Enclosure combos for the UForce 500, 600, 800 &1000. We also manufacture 28 Cab combos for the ZForce 500, 600, 800 & 950 Sport & 1000. We think we have pretty much got CF Moto covered. We have updated our name to Pacific Eagle Powersports.

I HAD both. I removed them and went with a Helmet and goggles.

With both, I still had to run with a dust mask and goggles, so to me it seemed pointless. During the summer there wasnt enough airlfow and I roasted my ass off.

Good info fellas, all around.

So Emerson, you really had to take the windshields off in summer, huh? Wow....I wouldn't have thought that....

If you haven't ridden in a SxS with a windshield over summer, you will be surprised how toasty it gets. I still have an Ogio camel pack that I would use for the occasion, and would freeze a bowl of water the night before the ride, then drop the giant ice 'saucer' into my pack and then put water in with it. Result was a large chunk of ice that was positioned right in between your shoulder blades, but it was thin enough that it didn't bother you, but it cooled your body core when you sat back in the seat. I could also sip from the water tube and get cold water to drink during a hot days ride as well.

So I guess it's good we got the flip up windshields, (right?) or am I gonna have to remove them too?

Just a foot note to the cab heating. Went for a short ride today in the mountains and when I got back I washed the rig as always before putting it away. So when I was done I fired it up and let it warn up a bit. Sitting there I flipped on my fan bypass and immediately felt warm air blowing in on me from under the dash. I then remembered that there is nothing stopping the fan's hot discharge from coming in as its all open back there behind the front tray. This is yet another source for hot air...and as I recall when I had the front tray out, there is room to put some kind of foam in that area to stop that.  Yeah...another project. But something to think about when considering front and rear windshields.

LOL..I have debated on that for two months now and decided for me the flip-up windshields is the best way to go as you can adjust it several positions or wide open to get all the air you need. I went riding with my friend with the RzR today who had a fill one piece windshield and rear as well. He actually drilled 1" holes along the bottom edge just to get some air inside...said he was miserable. He has plugs for the holes when it needs sealed but...that convinced me that a flip was the way to go. And I think Jason is very happy with his on his RzR.

NMK, you have an assignment:
Your mission; should you decide to accept it, is to figure out how to make that hot air coming in from the front ADJUSTABLE. As in, in winter, I want the warm air. In summer, I want none of it.

Your help is greatly appreciated in this endeavor.

Sincerely,

Shoot man that's easy. Just have a little duct line from the back of the fan to the cab that you can pop out in summer and out a bypass switch on the fan so you can get hot air when you want it...or other then when the thermos switch is on.

Exactly NMKawierider, my wife and I were just talking about that on our ride the other day. Really noticeable heat coming from the front just as if you turn the heater on in a car. When that fan comes on can feel the difference. Winter riding we kind of appreciated it but may have to look into making a removable "firewall". May start with a rubber gasket or boot around the steering column. Cool idea though about "ducting" something by the fan.

I think if you pop the hood and take the storage tray out you can see where I think e can stuff some foam in top stop that.

So, stuff something in there in summer, & take it out in winter? I thought this was going t be a LOT more scientific than that NMK....something along the lines of a handle; that you "Pull for Summer" and "push for winter" kind of thing. I'll have to take that pan out & look in there myself now.

Take a look..but as I recall it won't be something that one can just put a vent flap on...lol But..the idea of a special duct off the fan might not be a bad idea...and that could have a pull-damper. Have to think on that some more.
