Locking the front differential in may change the way the engine vibrates. Many Z8s and a few others have had issues with the exhaust heat shield rattling against the springs or other parts so I would check that and motor mount bolts for proper torque. There are also rubber parts of the mounts that can go bad as well.

My money is on the front prop shaft. Loose spines at the telescoping section. Pull the center plastic off and grab the shaft while running. The noise will go away. I tried very heavy grease in the spines, but didn't last that long.

I agree, mine is very loose and the damn rattle it creates is the loudest noise on my machine...at least in the cab, sometimes I almost want to yank it out and give up 4 wheel drive. I have lined the underside of the entire center consol with Thermo Tec which helped a little and I might try adding some other sound suppressor on top of the Thermo Tech, if I lived in the U.S I would defiantly get a price for having a new one machined.

Hmmm..mine like most everyone's is pretty loose too on the splines but doesn't make any noise..at least none I can hear. It does sometimes "Whip" in 4wd but a flick of the throttle centers it good enough to stop that.

OK so now you have me thinking that I should take a closer look, my rattle is in neutral or drive,
I am not sure if it is there in 4 wheel because I don't use it that often and when I do my concentration is focused on the terrain or the situation (problem  :-\) I've got myself into and not a rattle, I'll run it tomorrow and see if I lose it in 4 wheel and maybe pull the center consol later this week and take another look.

Most of the rattling I hear is the extra five grand in my pockets from not buying a Popo or canned Ham. :D

I've notice with the 800 you can hold the throttle @ a point were the Sprag clutch is locking & unlocking.....horrible sounding thing right there  :)

You might also check the carrier bearing.  I had to replace mine and it was getting worse and worse.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

No carrier bearing in the z6. The shaft won't come out unless  you part the plastic in the center to make room. Not a big deal. It will hold well after reassembly. You will see what i mean when you get it apart enough.

Drove mine yesterday and the noise is less in 4 wheel but still there. Thinking back I remember checking the shaft for play and grabbing hold of the shaft while running the revs up in neutral and the rattle disappeared.
