Power steering fail
« on: May 15, 2023, 09:36:56 AM »
2017 800 Trail, loaded on the truck running just fine, unload and suddenly no more P/S.
Nothing obvious, no trauma, just harder to steer.
The 12v plug on the dash has failed at the same time, suggesting a common electric fault. Fuse? Breaker?
The service manual has surprisingly little on the power steering, and doesn't even sport a wiring diagram (or an index!) that I can find.
Anyone find themselves in this situation? Thanks.

On the 2017s and prior PS was an option and won't be in the manual. You and I are in the same boat as far as that goes...lol. But, under the drivers seat in the rear compartment is both the main system fuse and the motor fuse for the PS. Both are 20 amp as I recall and both do get wet being down there...and as we know, nothing Chinese is waterproof forever. Check them first. The 12v acc plug is a different story...except for one thing. Although it gets it's power through the main 20 amp system fuse as does the PS control module, it also grounds through a common chassis ground as does that same PS module. So if that ground was lost, both would no longer work. See if you have power on the acc plug by testing the center probe. If so, you have a ground problem. Remember also that the chassis grounds connect back to the battery through those smaller wires that are with the main battery negative cable at the front side of the engine case on one of the CVT cover bolts. All must be connected.
