my z500 does not have painted plastics, but has black injected plastics and fine scratches from riding are gonna happen regardless. I have had success on other atvs polishing out these fine scratches, but for the life of me can not polish my z500 panels. I can clean up the fine scratches, but there is a dull sheen that remains on the panel and will not clear up. the surface of the plastic stays tacky to touch for awhile almost like my polishing liquid is not drying.  Is this just cheap Chinese plastic or am I missing something here. I simply cannot get the panels back to the original look. Any ideas?

Most plastics are pretty tough to polish but you are right about the .."type" ..of the plastics. The softer it is, the less it can be polished. Even 8000g polishing compound will leave marks that show's dull...especially in black plastics. I gave up and just use a silicone detailer to hide stuff for a while Maxima SC1 is what I use.

Thanks NMK, we have an 04 Suzuki Eiger, yellow plastics, other than the deep scratches it shines up nicely and the panel is slick and smooth to the touch immediately after polishing. The Cfmoto is tacky and there's a visible film on the surface like my compound didn't dry to buff out. Weird to say the least. No more attempts to polish lol just spray on the silicone!

Before you do that...if you want, clean it up well and run some silicone/way remover over it and give it a spray of clear coat urethane or clear Acrylic Lacquer..or some other hard clear coat that can be polished. The graphics might take a little extra prep...and really so should the rest of the plastics but it might be worth it. On the other hand I had a buddy that used to tell me that I was making my machines look like trailer-queens...He said "if you ain't scratch'n them..you ain't ride'n them".

This is true lol! I'm not that concerned to go painting panels, after a few more trail rides, limbs, rocks and debris I'd say the dull sheen on that area will not be of a concern anymore.
