Well, it were mine I would have to replace it but sense it's someone else's..maybe clean it up and put some new shoes on the clutch and call it good. That center area is where the one-way bearing should be. Was there one there? Looks pretty smooth..maybe it just doesn't have one.

Nope, no one-way bearing. We ordered a new clutch and bell, should be here next week.

Anything with a CVT has engine braking. Engine braking is simply the CVT clutches back shifting on decal to go to the lower ratio..just like you downshifting a manual vehicle and keeping your foot off the gas...

Sorry but that is an incorrect statement.  100% incorrect. Polaris RZR are CVT and do not have engine braking.  Its the one way bearing that supplies that.  The only way for a Polaris to fake true engine braking is for them to be on the gas somewhat (which of course defeats the purpose of braking).  That is the whole reason for the existence of the one way bearing.

There are plenty of other articles and threads on it if you want more.  Google will yield MASSIVE results on it.

The one way bearing would make sense. So no one way bearing means that it has no engine braking and is therefore an MC clutch. I would fair a guess and say the secondary is not the cvtech and is cfmoto's earlier one. Look at the cf500 service manual for info on these.

You can say no engine braking but it would act like Polaris does.  If you give it gas (to engage the clutch) and the engine RPM is lower than what the wheel speed would be for that RPM then it will supply SOME engine braking.  But nothing like it is with a one way bearing where even when no throttle is applied engine braking is still active.

Well, then let me revise that statement: As long as there is a connection between the wheels and the end of the crankshaft through a set of CVT clutches, there will be at least some degree of engine braking. That connection can be severed by belt or wet clutch disengagement and/or function of the one-way bearing. How's that? :)

You can't tell the two clutches apart by HL engine brake and MC no brake.
The difference between the two is again manufacturer.
Both come with or without engine brake.
If it has Pistons or Tits you will encounter problems.

Amazing they would build one without a one-way bearing. You would think a free-wheeling vehicle would be dangerous.

Well that runs against what i was told, but it's right there in the pic. Now we need to figure out how to tell what clutch they used. I was looking at pictures and there is nothing that pops right out to say HL or MC clutch. As I stated before, my plate is marked HL but I don't know if they all are or if the MC is marked in the same way. I guess the only way to tell if you have engine braking is to see if there is a one way bearing in it.

If I can have the vin off the motor I will tell you what clutch was installed from factory.
I wonder in the old owner didn't put the 1 way back in.
Most likely saw the price and lack of spare parts sources, and passed it on.
If it has Pistons or Tits you will encounter problems.

Parts came,  one way bearing came with the bell so I'm going to try it.  The secondary sheave on this is the cfmoto one.  Is this one still adjustable?

If you have ever driven a golf cart then this is what chuddly is talking about with how the RZR drifts downhill until given a lil gas.
The engine brake ( one way bearing ) doesn't require any throttle to engage.
