Is it time to add Brake fluid?

If so... my question is how and where, in to the container on the handlebars or the container under the front rack? I'm not very good at this stuff. And btw where has the fluid gone? My quad has been running on this brake fluid for about 1 year and 4 months. I haven't done anything to the braking system before  I read somewhere that the break pads wear out, causing the fluid to go low, is that a possible cause here?

Yes, it's low. The fluid goes in the top of that reservoir. Just clean it well, remove the screws you see on top, gently remove the top and the rubber diaphragm/seal under it, fill to the top line and reassemble. Yes, as pads wear the caliper pistons extent which requires fluid. Also conventional brake fluid is alcohol-based and can evaporate some.

I bought DOT4, but I thought of it now... do you think I have DOT3 or DOT4 in the quad, what did they add at the factory/dealer most probably? If for some reason I have DOT3 in the system now and I added DOT4 would that be bad for the system in any way?

I don't know if they make a non-synthetic DOT-4 but if they do and that's what you have, it should be OK. I just think it would be a mistake to combine non and synthetic fluids.

Factory is a non syn Dot 3,ypu can use 3-4 no worries. This should also be found on the cap.
