How do you load up your ride?
« on: July 11, 2018, 08:17:09 AM »
Caught this pick of NMK throwing his Z800 in the back of his truck. Anyone else load up their side by side in the bed of their truck?  Pics?

I'm thinking something similar to this for my F250 with a 82 inch bed so I can pull my RV behind and still get to the tongue jack.  I'd make the extensions level with the bed, though and back in to get the weight a bit more forward.

Are you getting an EX or a Trail?  Both being the same length I think I would be tempted to just leave the tailgate on it as the rear wheels will be just inside the edge, put the extra support gate bars like I had for the weight, and use a 16" extension on the hutch which is what I had to do for my camper. But..if your RV/Camper has a tongue weight of over 500lbs, an extension over 12" may not work.

That was my initial thought, the support bars and hitch extension and I may only need a 6 or 8 inch extension at that.  Still may be the best option.  Today I will be doing all the math to see what it looks like.  Plus, the dealer won't be able to deliver the Z800 Trail til Friday.  He has to have time to build it out of the box.

Looks good. I'd add tailgate bars. (Had cables snap on me in the past)

Yeah, looks good. Got the right ramps...lol. Now you can load it on about anything..anywhere.  Any issues with the rear cab window? I would do the bars too although the front isn't anywhere near as heavy as the rear. Still, loading it would be easier on it. I went here, watch some of the videos and just built my own but they do have a great product.

Any issues with the rear cab window?

For yesterday I threw a plastic four foot folding table behind the Z800 to keep it from smashing the window.  I am prefab'ing something now that will be permanent.

Buddy's an aluminum fabricator, I had him fab up these bumpers for my truck box. Shock mounted with hole sawed disks from conveyor belting and held on with 1/4"-24 bolts in threaded inserts.
Protects the back window.

Dang, man.  That looks sweet!  I have a buddy doing something kind of like that except it involved the Z800 hitch sliding into a notch and a locking pin dropping in to provide one level of securing the Z800 in the bed of the truck.

Just a story- cause I have some time to kill...lol.

For as long as I had my ATV I use a modified load-lock to keep it away from the rear window and just used some straps to keep it in place. This worked with the Z until one day the weight moved the load lock and almost let it into the rear window.  Clearly something else was needed. I though the best thing was some kind of stops for the tires but wanted to remove it when not in use. Made these 4x4 blocks cut to fit the front of the bed and just hook over to stay in place while running a ratchet strap through the tire to cinch it to the block and bed. This worked well enough that I kept and used them on the new truck for a while. I installed a strip of e-track on the front lined up with the axle center line to tie into and use for any other items I might haul because I didn’t want anything on the bed. The only thing was, 1-The old blocks were pretty ugly.. and 2- they tended to slide & shift around some.  I didn’t take any pics when in the old truck but got one when in the new. Like the old truck it just hooked over the front panel. Didn’t fit as well but I was going to build new ones someday anyway.

Worked well enough that when I built new ones that locked-into the e-track, I based the design on them except the new ones were 10”s wide instead of 9” because.. someday I plan on putting 10s on 7” wheels all the way around. These have worked-out nicely and I can store them in the storage boxes under the bed when not in use.

The only other thing I did to them was flare the ends to make it easier to thread the straps through.

Now I just need a nicer way to mark where they go. Using red plastic tape stands out too much…lol
