GPS

Rode at Hurley, Wis. over the weekend, even after 15" of rain, and need to find a better Gps. Our group spent a late of wasted time trying to figure out where we were in relation to the poor trail markings and incomplete maps.  I have an app on my phone that is ok but doesn't work when no cell signal.  Any ideas?

If your phone is Android based, you can use Backcountry Navigator Pro which is what I use on my tablet I have in the Z. It allow you to download maps so when you are away from service, you can just switch it to the downloaded maps. It is 19 bucks but works fine. I use the sat or aerial  maps so I can see trails, buildings..you know real stuff. Otherwise Garmin make some nice smaller GPSs like the Oregon & Montana. I also have an old GPSMAP60 CS that's been a life saver. I see they still make the GPSMAP series. Can't go wrong there either.

I also have Back Country Navigator on my phone.  Works great.  I have thought about putting a tablet in my SxS many times over the years but then I remember that 99.9% of the time i would not use it at all.  For my type of riding its not worth it.  And I do have my cell phone and maps downloaded and all i have to do is turn on GPS location (if it isnt already) and that requires no cell service at all.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.
