Engine life expediency

A question that was asked in "Thinking About Buying a CFMOTO" got me thinking about what do we really expect to get out of our machines, life wise. Would you buy a used car or motorcycle for $10,000 and only expect it to last another 5,000 or 10,000 miles, I realize that there is an enjoyment factor that you can't put a dollar figure on but putting that aside what are we expecting to get from our machines? Does anyone know if there is a factory stated life expediency, I doubt it but thought I would put it out there, if not what do you think is a reasonable expectation for a $10,000 plus or minus machine, in hours or miles? I realize these are off road vehicles and some are raced hard so life expediency can vary dramatically, but what would you expect to get out of one that is used for basic recreational enjoyment, running dirt roads and trails enjoying the countryside and not beating it to death? Knowing that CFMoto is fairly new in the U.S. maybe some of you who have owned other makes could tell us how many miles you were able to get out of your engines.

You cant compare an off road machine to a car.  Different animals, plus you are not going to get a new car for 10k LOL.  But on to your question.  There is no stated engine life from CF Moto as you guessed.  It would be stupid for them to do so as they are normally abused and beat.  There are several people that have SEVERAL THOUSAND miles on their machines.  I am north of 1500 miles on mine and race it and it shows ZERO signs of any wear or problems.  You have to think about off road machines and compare them to the rest of their kind.  Most people consider a quad or dirt bike with 2-3k miles to be "high mileage".  These things are lasting FAR beyond that.  A majority of the longevity of an engine/machine is based on maintenance and care as you would expect.  If you dont change your oil...you shorten the life.  If you let it overheat because it was out of coolant...you shorten the life.  If you just leave mud hang off of it all the time and never wash it...you shorten the life.  If you dont grease your grease points...you shorten the life. Im sure you get the idea LOL.  Plus as with cars, its hard on a vehicle just to sit.  And these are play toys to most of us so they just sit ALL WEEK or for multiple weeks.  Then we take them out and beat on them.  I think you get the general idea of what im saying LOL.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

Depends a lot on riding. I think I've seen over 6k miles and I'm sure that person rides on groomed trails at 40mph a LOT so the mileage ticks by quickly. I don't even have 200 miles on my machine yet and it's been 10 months. I ride mostly under 10mph crawling and trail breaking. Hours of engine life are probably a little better measure for engine longevity in my case. My jet ski they say I think 500-700 hours that's a 900 rotax and runs at 7-8k rpm and WOT pretty much it's entire life.
