Hey CF people! Has anybody tried the difference between 95 or 98 Octane Fuel in our CF motors?

91 is the best we have here.

Oh In Europe we've got 95 and 98 only. At least out of what I know.

I've used 87 and 93. Runs just fine on 87. 

You shouldn't run higher octane than is recommended unless you have upped your compression or notice a pinging. Higher level octane in an engine that does not require it will burn less efficiently and you will be wasting money and throwing unburnt fuel in your exhaust

I run 95 as all the 91 here has ethanol in it.

Could running 87 in it be the cause of my only getting 55 mph? 

Well I run 95 Octane because in Europe I cant get less  Do you think there is a difference in American engines and European engines? You guys run low octane fuel and I run quite high Octane fuel so is there a difference? I did something like 110kmh(68mph) maximum on my quad.

They are designed to run on 93 per the book. Engines actually will produce most power running the lowest octane possible without pinging. lower the octane the easier it will combust meaning more bang for your buck. The only time you need higher octane is if you have higher compression or are boosting. Sometimes a high mileage engine will start pinging using low octane fuel due to carbon build up causing hot spots. Now I see many people running lower octane on these engines. I'm not sure why they recommend 93 octane, It could be they are not going by USA standards. Europe uses a different measurement for octane. There low octane rating it like a 97 or something but it actually is the same as our 87 because they measure it using a different rating. Generally you would be able to hear the engine make a ping or rattle, sounds kinda like a chatter if your octane is too low. BUT I will probably run 93, maybe 89 and see what happens. As far as not getting top speed because you are running 87 I highly doubt it. Try running a higher octane or adding an octane booster to whats in your tank see if the engine sounds better. Pinging is a hard thing to pick out unless you know what your listening for

So it might seem to us that Europeans have the higher octane fuel but the reality is actually totally opposite, didn't even know about this, great info, thanks 

I generally run 93 octane in my stuff.  Its cheap in comparison to the 110 octane I had to run in my last SxS but i do miss that smell of burning 110 and backing out of the garage LOL

the difference is likely due to RON, MON or anti-knock index rating. I think most pumps in the US use a RON/MON average

In my part of Michigan we have recreation fuel. It's 90 octane and 100% gasoline. Its all I try to use.
