CF500 CDI Wiring
« on: May 29, 2026, 06:58:29 PM »
Just wondering if anyone knows the run (spark) conditions for the CDI in an older carby model 500cc CF188 engine? I’ve got the 6 pin plug sorted - IE +12v, ground, trigger wires (tested with peak voltage tester), coil and “additional relay” that I’ve left disconnected.

The 9 pin plug I haven’t verified, from various wiring diagrams this plug covers things like gear position, front diff, headlights etc.. nothing that in my mind should affect spark. I don’t have, and can’t find, a wiring diagram for this machine - a Xinyang XY500GK. I’ve got it sparking (and running, but carb needs serious work) with a Kawasaki CDI so I know my basic inputs and coil are good.

But I’d love to get it working with the correct CDI so I can use orignal wiring. I have tried a brand new CDI, gives the same symptoms as the old one IE one spark per cranking session.

So, if anyone knows what these three wires in the 9 plug should be connected to or why I’m not getting speak I’d love to hear!

Wish I could help. I just don't have anything that goes that far back.

No worries - it does seem like older CF Moto doesn’t harbour a lot of interest at the moment…

There also seems like there aren't too many older Chinese machines around. There are manuals for about anything out there still...just a matter of doing the right search.

[/quote]yes that’s definitely true as well. I’ve never seen or heard of another one of these Xinyangs in the country. I can find a manual for an XY500UTV, but not an XT500GK - which is not close enough. And it (like all the many CF188 engined manuals I’ve found, of which you’re right there are quite a few) shows a wiring diagram for the machine where I can see wires to the CDI, but no pinout of the 9pin plug (aliexpress has listings that show a pinout for the 6 pin), and wire colours are different
