Brand new cforce 400, loses electrical power, randomly
« on: October 27, 2022, 08:29:10 PM »
HELP! Brought a brand new cforce 400 home. Started the engine and it ran for 1 minute, i try to drive it dies. Light on dash flash and it comes back to life and i can restart the engine. Same thing a few times.

After few more of these. Electrical power is all lost. Comes back by itself 30 seconds later and i can restart. Dies again, no power. Total ghost problem.

Where to look? Battery connections are OK. Now it has been dead for 20 minutes and not coming back to life by itself. Well it did for 5 seconds, dash lit up and dead again.

I should add that when it gets power it starts and runs. But it keeps losing electricity randomly. Most recently for 30 minutes and when it regained power... It lost it again moment I pressed the gas. All instruments dead. Battery starts fine, could it be it? It would not make any sense as it's all new.

Yup . . sounds like it might be a loose connection or bad relay.
Well, my 800 has relays and secondary fuses but no issues.
A bad relay can do exactly what your describing.

take it to the dealer, tell them to make it right.

Yeah, thanks guys, of course i will but it's a pain in the ass. 45 min drive one way, half a day wasted. They might be able to do it on the spot. It's dead now. Dealer told me (to save me the drive) to look under the seat for the main relay and 30amp fuse. Sure enough, I was able to locate the relay and fuse... but was unable to remove the fuse. i think some plastic melted due to a bad connection and it literally melted the plastic and fuse is stuck. I smelled burt rubber when it ran indeed...... and that is why it was flickering and was dying randomly.. until it died for good. Fuse is most likely blown now so I am taking it there, the whole relay has to be replaced with the fuse too, but just to check with you all.. multiple times the bike died has no effect on the engine or charging parts etc does it? I presume it's safe for these engines to just lose power right? Sorta what the kill switch does anyway right?

Just confirming... solenoid assembly with fuse box was toast (under the seat straight after the battery). burnt to melted plastic. Replaced it under warranty and bike runs like new.
