A-Arm bushing
« on: August 31, 2017, 08:26:46 AM »
Ordered the RZR 800 A-arm bushings, front end starting to get a lil loose, 838miles.
Question is, do you need to remove the shock or is there enough room to move the a-arm and switch out the bushing?

You are going to want to swing it well forward to clean out all the grease and film from the tube as they will have to be glued to keep them from spinning in the tube....and adhesives won't bond to a surface with any oily or greasy film on them. And they just won't fit tight enough without it. So...at least take the shock off the a-arm and swing it out of the way. And as soft as the sleeves are, better check their wear as well. They aren't..too tight to the bushings even in new condition.

Going to have to un-mount the wench too. Just the four 13mm bolts that mount it to the plate. Even then the right side is a bit of a witch to slide the bolt out enough to get the arm off.. but it will..don't give up. :)

I was able to do my front lowers without removing the winch or the shock.  It took about 10 minutes.  Remove bolt, pull old bushings out, push new bushings in, grease, and re assemble.  I did use cfmoto bushings.  Please take pics and let us know how the Polaris bushings work out.

I did ALL of my bushings with RZR 800 bushings.  Pretty simple.  I also got enough to do the rear on the knuckle side and just had to cut them down a bit but no big deal.  I would remove the shock and arm.  I also replaced the shafts the bolts ride in as mine were pretty beat up.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

Yeah..you can do the lowers without doing anything with the shock or the wench. Its the uppers that usually wear first...at least on my stuff what ever the shock is attached to, that's the first bushings that go bad.

Are the RZR bushings holding up better than the CFMoto bushings so far?

Thanks guys for the information. I'll take note of all of it.  And I'll take some pics as well.
NMK, any particular adhesive you recommend ?
Just to recap, you may ... or may not need to take the shock off, may have to , but may not take the a-arm off, and they may need some adhesive or they may be able to go without.... got it! Lol
Seriously though thanks for the info guys.  Just didn't want to get smacked with an a-arm.  Lol

Just take the shock off...it's just two bolts. Cake. Grease the ends when off. I have a video on that as well as the a-arm gluing and what I used. If you need the glue, you will have to clear all the grease completely. I think I just used some E6000 from Lowes. This stuff but anything like it would be fine. Remember to let dry over night before pumping grease into it cause it will push the wet glue right out..done that..

Why would you glue a bushing?

Why would you glue a bushing?
The bushing must fit the a-arm tight enough not to move while it rotates on the sleeve. It doesn't. Not even the CFM bushings fit tight enough all the time and the RZR's are even looser. Must be affixed somehow so adhesion is the best way we have found so far.

Here is an observation I made today for what is worth when replacing the A-arm bushings with CFMOTO bushings on the back of the machine today.

- Old bushing I could squeeze the end in with my fingers, the new ones I couldn't, much harder material.
- I had to use a mallet to force the new bushings (black in colour) into the A-arms sleeves and the axle knuckle.

Guess they may have upgraded their bushing.

Yeah the black ones are the upgraded bushings...and I understand they are Delron/Delrin material. May I ask what did they cost you?

The bushings (short ones) are $10.56 CDN each and come packaged as a pair.

One other thing I found when I had the A-arms off, the original bushing that were used on the inside of the upper A-arms were the short bushings and not the long ones. For now I have the short one in but will be checking with the dealer about the long bushings.
