2018 Z Force 1000 Hard Starting
« on: August 10, 2019, 06:33:04 PM »
I’m having an issue starting the machine. It takes 3 or 4 tries to get the motor to start and idle, almost like it’s not getting enough fuel. Any thoughts ?

Could be many things. I would start with the basics then move to the electronics...or just take it in. :)

Like NMK suggested start with the basics.......spark plugs  :) I wonder @ times the quality of NGK plugs, always chalked it up to the power sports industry as I've seen a multitude of NGK failures in watercraft & off road products. Then an automotive tuning friend of mine mentioned problems he has had with NGK plugs out of the box  :(

The problem magnifies if the unit is started & shutoff quickly such as running it in & out the shop.

I will bet your problem is that simple.

I hope so as well. But after it runs for a while it starts with just a bump of the key. I’m thinking like split fire plugs we use in our sea foo here in N.C.  Any thoughts on them or Bosch platinums ?

I found the splitfires to be a gimmic that did nothing to the engine I was testing them in (on a dyno). Bosch Platinums are ok, but the best I have found have been German or Belgium made Bosch. Have had good life from Mexican made Champion plugs too.

Thnx NMK for your expertise on these rides. I cleaned the mass air sensor like you said and it starts with just a bump of the key like it used too. I opened the air box and wrung out the Uni filter of its excess oil ( didn’t get much ) and wiped the box down going to the intake. It appears these motors are somewhat sensitive ? Thnx again
