Got my new 2016 z force 800, in July of 2016, 7 miles on new from dealer, now has 746 miles on,
started getting a loud ticking about around 380 miles when first starting up, thought may bey a valve noise, would go away after about 3-4 min, took in to the dealer, they called me stated it was the chain hitting the cover, states have called factory, still waiting on answer from factory.
BY the way the dealer has been great,  I was just wondering if any body else has seen this. Me and my wife just love the machine, and hope to have many more wonderful times.

Mine has had a little knock close to idle when cold then quits. I think..in my case..it's just wet clutch related. Over 800 miles now and still the same. However..I have also set my valve lash twice now because of valve "ticking" noise. Wasn't probably necessary the second time yet but I was in there so I thought..might as well.

I had the dealer do the first service at 300 miles, they also adjusted valves, at that time, oil level
is up, and oil is clean, they said they had to find out if factory wanted them to disassemble rest of engine, they said tentioner failed , cause chain to rub cover, my thoughts if cover has been rubbed wouldn't there be metal contamination in rest of engine which could cause major engine failure further down the road.  any thoughts, thanks for the info and reply.

Kinda depends on how much. Most of it will just fall to the bottom and sit there. The rest...if gets caught in the flow...will either get caught at the intake screen or if very small, at the filter before heading back out to the engine. So damage from these particles isn't real likely. There has been a few reports of tensioner issues but it's very rare. I'm curious though...what "cover" are they saying the chain is making contact with? And what chain exactly has the failed tensioner? If you grab a manual and take a look, its pretty tough for any cam chain to get enough sideways..or whipping movement to contact...anything.

Have a knocking noise coming from rear valve cover. Checked valves nothing looks out of place or loose or broken. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Sounds like possibly a valve stuck.. maybe? Any ideas

You can check the valve operation manually but also check the cam chain guide and tensioner. There have been some problems with some.

I've done everything possible to valves I will try and update a video when I get off work. It doesn't sound good. Any helpful ideas to getting motor to top dead center so I can go ahead and start tearing into? And anything I need to know about timing if I do?

To get to TDC on any 4 stroke, watch the valves, the intake valve will open, once it closes the piston is on its way back up, both valves will be closed once it gets to the top that's TDC on the compression stroke (as long as you are turning the engine over the correct way). you should be able to watch in the spark plug hole or insert a thing screwdriver into the hole and find TDC (just make sure you don't get the screwdriver jammed keep it. moving freely).
To check for source of a noise a stethoscope works well or the cheap version is a long screwdriver. plastic end to ear =)

I've adjusted valves at top dead center, but I'm curious if your going to remove chain and valves and everything is there any position motor needs to be in? Or do you go by the markings you used to get top dead center for the valves. I believe it's a bearing went bad, hopefully didn't ruin piston or cylinder. Just never tore my CF down that far and rather ask than not before just tearing into. Like certain steps to follow so upon reassembly don't run into a ton of problems

They do have timing marks when on tdc compression i believe.  Someone else recently pulled the engine apart they would be the one to ask.  I haven't had it apart

There are TDC marks on the magneto for both cylinders.  After inspecting the head and timing set on one of these engines, I can say there is no possible way that the timing chain rubbed a cover.  If a chain tensioner failed I'm sure the timing would have jumped and the engine would have run poorly.  That chain is tight, really tight.  Just my two cents.
