2014 cforce 800  1060 klm   just bougth this (new to me ) and when first trying to start the starter kicks in and makes a  errrrrrr sound, let off starter button and try again it starts up.  after riding for even a few mins if stop she starts up perfectly.    anyone experience this  or any ideas/info would be great.  always been a polaris guy but loving this cf moto but not familiar with it at all.     thanks in advance.

May be a starter motor or drive problem starting. Best check into it before it fails completely.

Can you elaborate on the 'errrrrr' sound? Do you believe the starter is spinning/free-wheeling and gears spinning? Or is this the sound of a motor drawing current trying to turn but can't?

I ask because if the starter is spinning, but the engine is not, I would guess that the sprag clutch is a bit worn.

The only thing I noticed was failure to put motor oil on the new sprags before assembly.

Check the tightness of all the cables from battery to starter motor. A loose terminal will sometimes give those symptoms.

Sounds like dry bushes/bearings in the starter motor.

Is the cvt belt grabbing/rubbing?

thinking on replacing the e starter just to see.
didn't think of the belt, but well remove the cover to ck it out, tks

It's either the starter motor or the oneway sprag. My money's on the sprag.

ugh! The same ugly sound when it shuts off.....that's a clue.

The noise is gone after it starts correct? Starter is not staying engaged?  Other than that god awful sound it runs normally & properly?

Any update on your noise issue?

    I just went through his on my 2018 Z500 ho.   It was The sprag  dead give away when it makes the noise starting & shutting off.    You can get them from Ebay cheap. Mine made
that noise 5 times befor it failed.
